Why ford, Whhhyyyy??

Featured Replies

Im surprised there hasnt been a thread on this already? that Ive seen any way.

what were Ford thinking when they decided to once again decided to use an historically beloved model name for a frickin EV SUV??

The big fat Mustang Mach E was bad, but now they gone and made a "Capri" crossover EV that has none of the original styling or even barely a nod to it.

The Crapi was always crap.

Sharing the same running gear as the Cortina, as these there is a good song about the Cortina by the TR band. Joke suspension, poor engines as standard, maybe the 2.8 I was not half bad.

Use to enjoy blowing Crapis in to weeds in Doly Sprints and my Opel Manta was a much better car as were various Alfas and other machines. Now a rwd Escort or Cosworth something to respect.

I like modern sports coupes but these new capri looks and sounds like something very bang average or worse.

Use to be buy a Ford if you cannot afford, or have the imagination, to buy anything decent.

It's basically a Skoda Eyaq in drag.

Not what was hoped for

The Capri may not have been much cop but it did at least have some style and the Essex and Cologne V6s sounded lovely.

Looking closely the new one does have some styling elements from the old one...   Such as rear side window line and bonnet profile but I agree they should have used a new name.

Indeed, quite a small number compared to dozens of other models which sold in the tens of millions.

From and engineering stand point it had crude suspension and mostly poor engines. 3 litre ones particularly, joke, last model ie 2.8i, made sexy on The professionals a fair swan song to a very poor model in Ford's line up.

Both the Ford Capri and the Opel Manta were in tune with the spirit of the times and the tastes of customers at the time. Over 780,000 of the first two Capri generations were sold by 1973, i.e. in four production years. By the end of production, almost 1.9 million Capris of all model series had been built. With just under 500,000 units, the Manta A was the second best-selling model. Total production of the Manta A and the Manta B reached just over one million units.

The choice is easier for brand fans, because an Opel fan will never flirt with a Capri and a Ford lover with an Opel.

In what way other than the early nylon cam gear and oil pump drive issues?  Both were resolved via modified parts resulting in a pretty reliable engine that was used by a multitude of other low volume manufacturers.

Their smaller EV,  a small battery EV.

Lots will be theirs as they First Register them then sell as Used cars.

Quite a pokey motor it sounds like with 0 to 60 in 8 seconds. Quicker than my Scenic. Perhaps going more against the MINI rather than the 5 and other mainstream B segment EVs.

Ford need it to succeed but it has to be doubtful. 3 years to bring to market is too slow compared to most of its competition.

They may be slow to market but if the products are right and priced right they'll sell.

Personally I've not been a fan of Fords in the past, partly due to bad historic experiences with them as well as not liking the cheap interiors and designs.

The new European Explorer does seem strangely quite appealing though...

My eyes, my eyes!!   Not to my taste I'm afraid 🤮

As a slight aside (but far more interesting IMO) and for respite, I've been watching this chap put a PD130 in a Capri (a real one):

Gaz

The worst new car headlight for blinding i have seen coming towards me are on Ford Explorer EV.

They are set high on them and if they are coming down a road towards you they seem to be on full beam, Matrix lights i suppose.

I am in a low MINI or BMW but it is not my eyeline that is the issue, likely the FORD,s.

No idea if a Capri will be the same.

I heard the Ford UK MD this morning on BBC Radio 4 Wake up to Money.

http://bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0029p0t

@29 minutes.

The New Electric Ford Puma is arriving now into the UK.

With a New Ford EV in the UK you get a FREE EV WALL CHARGER INSTALLED.

*Not free really as she says if you do not need a EV Wall Charger you get a discount on the car.

So you are paying to get something FREE really.*

Free 5 years Servicing.

Free energy for 10,000 miles a year i think she said.

An 8 year battery warranty.

Roadside assistance. Towed to a charger if you run out.

Basic stuff then that others have already been doing.

EDIT.

Just looked into my local Ford Dealership which is just 1 mile away and arranged for a test drive when they have a car available.

What a pity if there is just going to be black plastic shiny like this.

That is a deal breaker for me. Holy crap looking in no time. (Even if a leased car.)

WLTP 376 km / 233 miles.

divided by 42 kW (battery size. means getting 5.5 miles to the kWh.

No way Jose. We will see. 3.5 miles a kWh would be 147 miles. 4 miles a kWh 168 miles. Maybe just.

?Are you getting 10,000 miles worth of energy based on the WLTP or on real world 3.5 miles a kWh?

Built in Romania.

He says and shows 100 kW / 136 PS. Not the figure given in the top video.

FORD show it as 123 kW. 162 ps.

All Season tyre option. Nice.

Efficiency. Lovely.

But then she should have mentioned the Ambient temp when she was getting 4.4 miles a kWh.

And 200 miles from a 43 kWh USABLE CAPACITY battery would need to be getting 4.6 miles a kWh.

(I read the battery is 53 kWh total capacity.

& in Car Data, an estimated Total Capacity of 46 kWh)

Competitive pricing at around the 30k mark.

Didn't realise Ford had gone big in to Romania as Renault had which is why they can knock these cars out at attractive prices.

Think it will sell well if the cabin at features are up to Fords quite high standards.

Battery size quoted seems on the small size and will be interested to see how well it performs in summer and winter for range.

Driving a quite small ie 60 kwh battery car, it will be interesting to see drivers reaction to range, state of charge and getting good range. It's an art plus sciencing the sh1te out of it to quote The Martian.

it is worded as "up to 10,000 miles" so i think it will be Kilowatts at the wltp

I think the Renault 5 starting at just £23k is more competitively priced.

Haha, small?

It's all relative isn't it? For her needs, I don't consider my wife's Nissan Leaf (<18 kWh usable these days) to have a small battery.

My parents had Kona 40 kWh for 2 weeks and now Megane 60 kWh, they think the 60 kWh is enormous.

Likely many will be getting leased for NHS / Carers / Social Work and local authorities as the leased MG & KIA Niro EV,s are returned.

The advance payment will drop for them from Motability as well and tens of thousands will be bought by them to lease.

Obviously dealers will have plenty Pre-registered sitting ready to go out.

If the actual 'Winter in London', or Winter in 'Aberdeen' or more importantly not in these not very cold places the efficiency is 3.7 miles a kWh then it is 160 miles from a full battery.

As the reviewers / motoring journalist well know.

As they know that if the centre screen is annoying while out in the sun on the full inclusive hotel and free travel job then how is it in a right hand drive car for right handed drivers who buy / lease their cars or are given them for their job..

Good to see the space available with both or 1 rear seat down. If talking 4 in the car then show with 4 large suitcases in please.

Scratchy plastic does not matter. Plastic that scratches easily if touched does.

Sound Bars or Fabric Dashes are OK as long as not dusty. Easy wipe / clean scratchy plastic or rubber touch is preferable IMO.

............

There is 1 pedal driving if you want. Rear drums and front wheel drive, so sensible.

As far as reviewers there are often those that comment about disliking braking and others that are positive about them.

Odd really that many of them use brakes to feel them in towns, or even for spirited driving in a car that feels sporty IMO.

Slow down for SPEED BUMPS, that is the point of them!

I do listen to him 'Nobby on cars'. as i do to Tim Roddie, others i take with a pinch of salt.

BUT,

No matter is listening in the UK or Outer Mongolia, 300 km is a little under 200 miles, not a little over it.

186.4 miles if converting...Using actual conversions.

He says Flat Rear Floor. Another reviewer says otherwise.

He finds L for more regen, but no mention of 1 pedal selection via the screen.

So is there 1 pedal to opt for, and if not opted for still more Regen at you finger tip, to use like a 'Overdrive switch' on Autos for slowing, like dropping a gear. So 1 pedal, or not one pedal, and even more regen braking?

So again.

220 miles is 354 km, not 300 or close to 300.
