Towing Auto Citigo

Featured Replies

Can a Citygo with auto (DSG) gearbox be towed?  User Manual makes no mention of this.

As the DSG is actually an automated manual gearbox - not a TC automatic, I don't see any reason why it cannot be towed, provided neutral gear can be selected.

It does not have a DSG though.  Direct Shift Gearbox / Dual Clutch Gearbox.

It is a ASG.  Automated Single Clutch gearbox.

*I think because an Automated Manual it is OK towed in Neutral*

?

How far is it getting towed.  A short distance slowly.    What is it being towed with an A-Frame?

Behind a Motorhome type tow?

Thanks for your swift reply Warrior.  That was my thinking, it's just that the manual states "Vehicles with manual transmission can be towed in with a tow bar or a tow rope or with the front or rear wheels raised"  but makes zero mention of auto versions.  Ootohere - I can find even less info about towing an ASG vehicle but as I need to get car to location just 5 miles distant I'll probably get away with it.  It will be towed flat using tow rope in neutral and fairly slowly.

Look and see if you can find anything in a VW Up! Owners Manual,

or maybe a SEAT Mii,s.

?

Is the gearbox faulty?

Gearbox is fine - Water pump isn't!  VW site needed VIN to access manual but SEAT manual was much more explicit and had full instructions for towing an Auto.  Basically ensure it's in neutral, no going more than 50Km and not exceeding 30 MPH.  SO looks like I'm OK.

Just be aware that tow ropes are no longer legal, so you need to use a fixed towing bar instead

But you will not get prosecuted hopefully if just towing a car / vehicle a short distance to the nearest place of safety with a Tow rope or Strap.

As the Police or Highways Staff might well do and do do in the UK.

Emergencies, a few yards / meter only though.

I think that applies to "on the motorway"

Only the distance between the vehicles has a limit, not the distance it can be towed (from what i can find).

For Motorways i have read statements like  "you cannot tow on the motorway"  and "never tow a car on the motorway" but does that imply you can tow a car "off the motorway"?

That's interesting.  The manual I found was here: https://ownersmanuals.blob.core.windows.net/ownersmanuals/en/Citigo_NF/03-2012/OwnersManual.pdf  with the towing section on page 135.

Why are you looking there (at a 05.2012 edition). - this is in the  Škoda Owner's Manuals website ( https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models ) (page 36, "Citigo anglicky 05.2012" version) has the following.  -

If you've not got your paper printed copy of the car's Owner's Manual you can download a free VWŠkoda pdf copy of it from the VWŠkoda site I put the link to above using a guess at the build date or your VIN.
