Sport Mode

Featured Replies

Possible weird (aka stoopid) question

I may be imagining it but I really think my MY22 Karoq is noticeably more responsive if I select Sport using the Mode button in the console as opposed to selecting it with the gear lever.

Is that an actual 'thing' or will I really be imagining it?

It's a thing.

Throttle mapping is changed in sport mode.

Would that be in the DSG model?

In my 2023 manual 1.5 TSi 'sport', mode makes the steering heavier, but has no appreciable effect on performance.

Similary 'eco' mode appears to have no appreciable impact on MPG (tracking MPG in my cars is a particular fascination of mine😀).

I know the mapping is different but I can access (a) Sport Mode via the different methods set out in the original post.

Are you confirming they are different?

It is a 1.5 DSG

I can't say I can feel a difference in the steering even though I'd expect there to be one

I also know that it holds individual gears longer in Sport Mode.  It does regardless of how I switched but I can't tell if the changes are different between them.

It's specifically the throttle response I am confused about as to whether it is really different depending on which method I choose to I switch to (a) Sport Mode.

I'd swear it's 'better' using the Mode button but I have no way of confirming/proving it

If you are putting the gearbox in Sport on the lever then only the DSG change points will get adjusted.

Using the Mode Select button in sport mode will change the DSG change points,  throttle response and steering weight.

Putting the DSG into Sport mode on my 2.0 TSI does increase the  Soundaktor level, with audible blips when changing down, and it don’t arf shift too. I’ll have to experiment with mode button now as well.

Thank you 👍

I now know I wasn't going mad 😁

You should be able to feel the difference in throttle response on a manual.

The pedal travel for torque demand differs in each mode.

For example and not actual reality.

Eco 30% pedal travel requests 10% torque

Normal 30% pedal travel requests 30% torque

Sport 30% Pedal travel requests 50% torque

Difference in how the engine produces torque / power is minimal in each mode but you can make it feel much more responsive.

Some small cars do this, especially some smaller Italian N/A models.  25% pedal travel would give you 80% torque demand so driving normally they'd feel really strong but put your foot down and there'd be hardly anything extra.

Thanks for the explanation👍

I guess the 1.5 TSi hasn't got a deal extra to give which probably explains why I'd not noticed any particular difference, beyond the noticeable change in steering weight, between the modes.

If you go to the individual mode you will see a list of options you can choose from. On my car, these are:

Steering:                       Sport/normal

Drive:                            Sport/normal

ACC:                              Sport/normal/Eco

Light Assistance:        Sport/normal

A/C:                              Normal/Eco

So I assume that sport mode the first 4 change, although the only one that I notice is that the steering gets heavier. I feel no change in throttle response, although it may change slightly.

Interestingly I had a 73 reg T-Roc as a loan car a while ago and when set to Sport, this was retained after an engine stop, whereas mine defaults back to normal.

You get the full 150PS and 250NM in all modes with the foot flat to the floor.

It's how the engine responds to the pedal inputs in between 0 to 100% that differs.

It’s possible! Selecting Sport mode with the Mode button might adjust more settings beyond just the transmission, affecting throttle response and steering. If you notice a difference, it’s likely due to varying algorithms or settings. It’s not just your imagination—different inputs can lead to slightly different responses. I’ve used academized.com/buy-research-paper several times, and each time I’ve been really happy with the results. The research papers are always well-written and meet all the academic requirements. If you’re like me and need help with your research papers, I highly recommend trying this service. It’s reliable, fast, and the quality of the work is consistently high. It’s been a great resource for me during busy times.

Thank you, I will keep it in mind.

Edit: I am sorry for replying here. I also want to know about it and I was about to start my own thread but I found your post where I found my answer. I apologize if I did wrong.

Is it possible to have the car stay set on a chosen option rather than it defaulting to "Normal" mode each time the engine is switched off? I would like to keep it in "Sport" mode rather than have the inconvenience of resetting it once i start a new journey.

Perhaps the software changed but but my 2018 1.5 SEL once selected stays in Sport mode all the time

You can't as far as I know on MY22 or MY23 cars but I wish I knew how if it is possible.

Probably/possibly changed due to emission laws.

Just a thought

I wonder if you could change it using one of those bi-directional OBD diagnostic/coding gizmos. For example.

See one of the screens.

Item 22. Transport Mode

Although it would be an expensive way of avoiding pressing the button in the centre console twice each time you start the car. 🤔

Transport mode. That is for new vehicle delivery. Taken out of Transport mode at the PDI.

Yadda yadda School day 😁

I wondered if it was just a terminology thing but I guess "Driving Mode" would have been used.

Might still be an option for the device though. I just went by the ones I could see in the Amazon listing photo

I have no problem putting mine into sport mode - just flick gear lever back past D, to the stop. No need to use the mode button and tap the screen. It’s just one fluid motion of the gear lever.

The Mode button and toggling with the lever give different versions of Sport mode.

See logiclee's posts above.

Sorry, missed the earlier posts for some reason. Just driven up from Guildford to Mansfield and should have gone to bed, but brain still fizzing!!☹️

Is there a noticeable difference in steering wheel weight in normal and sport mode? For me, there is almost no difference. I select the modes from the button, not from the gear lever. The car is a Karoq 2024 1.5 TSI DSG.
