How-to Guide to Upgrade MIB2 to MIB2.5

Featured Replies

Is any chance to check it if this is high or standard? In standard GPS won't work without sd card?

Sorry I'm confused now..

MIB Standard (Low) Navigationssystem need SD Card With Maps

MIB High, Navigationssystem Maps is on the intern memory.

Edited by Cairus

But I used sd card to update maps and don't know if this card is needed now. It's normal sd card without skoda/vw logo like I've seen few times somewhere.

Take Out the SD and Check, Navigationssystem is working

Anyone can help me with some info of how to update the MIB2 to the latest version before I try and upgrade the unit to a MIB 2.5 ? The car has a Canton audio system, don't know if that makes any difference.

I have posted the wrong photo, and MIB-helper says that this is the latest version. Anyone knows how accurate that is ?

Good to hear. I can now buy the MIB 2.5 without issues then haha

The only one problem I have is that I can't make adaptation with confirmation of installation change. After I do the xor numbers I write it to change confirm and it going back to previous numbers.. It's like not saving what I changing don't know why. I'm definitely sure it was working before when I updated old version to 1433 (before screen swap year ago).

So you think that is because it might need a proper coding ?

So I managed to f'up somehow.

I've put the firmware as on the guide, in the root of a fat32 formated card, modifying the metainfo2 file.

When I've inserted the card, I was prompted with the 'update available ' message but nothing happened. I've left it like this for like 5min, nothing happened, so I went into the menu, and pressed the update menu. Nothing happened also. I've removed the card a few times(changing the adapter for it, as it was a microsd in an adapter, thinking that is the issue) but no luck.

Then I noticed menus can't be accessed in the infotainment(radio was working, but couldn't see the menu), and after I've left the car off for like 15min, I get a boot loop with the Skoda logo(stays on a few minutes, and then resets and comes back), and can't go into the menus anymore.

I've put the original firmware on the card, and hopped it will boot from it and go back to stock, but can't see anything after 10-15min of waiting.

Is it bricked ? Anyone has any idea if I can salvage the unit ? or do I need a new mib2 unit (radio + glovebox thing) ?

The Radio Unit is the Part in the Glovebox. Display is only Display.

An update for my f'up from above.

I went with the unit to someone doing coding and stuff, and he said is dead. Then, I've sent the unit and 9.2' screen to another person in Ludlow , and behold, he recovered, updated to mib2.5 and is all back working now. So happy panick is over.

Changed the trim above the radio also, with one from ebay, and it's all done now.

Screen is way better on the 9.2', and it's not that bad without the physical buttons. 30min in the car with the new screen, and I don't miss the old one 😄

Sooo, i was going to to this mib2 - mib2.5. Downloaded all the files etc. Put the SD card in and couldnt get the update to start.

Now i am stuck on the startup screen with the Skoda logo. Backup camera work but nothing else. I believe it is because i didnt upgrade the MiB2 to the latest before i was doing the MIB2.5 upgrade.

Dont think anyone here can fix the head unit.

Can i buy the head unit from a car with the 9.2" screen and mib2.5 and it will work?

I got mine stuck also with the Skoda logo on bootloop, but nothing else was working.

I got it fixed by someone, but I had to send the unit in the glovebox. If you are in the UK I can pass you his details

I am in Norway så that doesent work i am afraid.

You can definitely fix it, and you don't need to change the whole unit. Even if you change the unit in the glovebox with one from a car with mib 2.5, my understanding is that it will need coding.

Better look for someone who is doing coding for VAG cars, and can restore the firmware, then they can update to MIB2.5 also. Maybe going on the Facebook groups for MIB 2 or MIB 2.5 you can find someone local to you.
