Sixth month stats from the car Feb-Mar

286mile @ 3.5m/kwh = 81.71 kw. [email protected] = £20.72

My Mondeo would have  averaged 35 mpg for 286m @£1.367 litre = £50.26

Stat from the GOM the car has been on for 23.37 hours and averaged 12mph.

Thanks for kicking off this thread. Similar to you I have been (still am) waiting to find the tipping point for when an EV becomes the way to go for me. Part of my challenge is most of my mileage is on long journeys (e.g. European road trips and aged parents 280 miles away) and thankfully I have the luxury of no longer having a daily commute. I do need a big boot though, hence the current Octavia Estate.

Your miles/kWh figures are useful, thanks. It'll help me estimate potential costs should I take the leap. Will be interesting to see how much the hotter summer weather and use of AirCon impacts the figures in the Enyaq IV. The comparisons with your Mondeo are very different to my scenario - over 50k miles I have average in excess of 57mpg in my petrol Octavia, which at current prices works out at 11.8p/mile vs. 7.2 (your Enyaq IV) or 17.6 (you Mondeo). Off peak energy tariffs clearly have a big impact on EV running costs.

Interesting comment from @Luckypants regarding short [winter] journeys and the need to re-heat the car for each impacting power consumption. Guess similar would apply in the summer with AirCon. Lots of variables to consider when doing the sums! And I'm yet to look at serving costs and I've heard that tyre wear tends to be higher for an EV - presumably the extra weight and/or more power & torque from standstill compared to ICE cars).

Looking forward to seeing more updates in due course.

I have found over the past 3 summers that air-con cooling uses far less power than heating the cabin. It is rare to see power use for aircon above 0.7kW for sustained periods and normally less than 0.

  • First month stats from the car   358mile @ 3.1m/kwh = 115 kw? x 24p = £27.60   although my meter readings suggest we have only used 72kw more than this period last year = £17.28

  • Second month stats from the car   224mile @ 2.7m/kwh = 82.96 kw? x 25.01p = £20.74   although my meter readings suggest we have  used 73kw more than this period last year = £18.26

I have found over the past 3 summers that air-con cooling uses far less power than heating the cabin. It is rare to see power use for aircon above 0.7kW for sustained periods and normally less than 0.5kW. Air-con power consumption does go higher when cooling a hot cabin, but that can be mitigated by opening the windows until the cabin cools.

Whereas heating the cabin can start at a power draw in excess of 5kW on very cold days and often remains in 2-2.5kW region maintaining temperature. Heating an uninsulated metal box is really a fool's game and the heat just leaks out.

First strange thing happening with the Enyaq.

Since purchase last Sept I have had the aircon set to come on automatically each day at the ridiculous o'clock that i get up. I have now turned that off.

Yesterday the Car would not respond to the remote. So I couldn't get in it. To save being late for work messing about I just quickly arranged a lift.

When I got home I thought I will use the App to have a look to see if anything was reported in there. On opening the app the car activated and did a bit of a whir. Tried the remote and it unlocked straightaway. Worked for the rest of the day.

Today after an overnight, again the car does not respond but i used the app straightaway and it woke up.

So it appears the car is going to sleep and cutting off the remote detection..

I would expect this as a 12v battery protection measure if the car was left for a long time but overnight seems a bit quick.

I am thinking that it hasn't come up before because of my aircon scheduling previously waking up the system.

Is it pre heating you had set? Does that actually require the AC ? Is this preconditioning done without the car being plugged in charging? Just a failing battery then.

It is set as "Stationary air con", you set time and day of departure.

I plug the car in on Wed eves till i go to bed. But not sure if that charges the 12v. The Car does when "on" because the battery reads 13.5v when tested. Not yet found how to switch it off ( make it read 12v battery only) with the bonnet up.

I will see if it goes to sleep by morning tomorrow.

It could just be a low battery condition that is causing it.

But it's unusual for this kind of fault to present itself in mild weather

@Ootohere

Update:

I believe I have solved what happened last weekend.

After a couple of days this week of being asleep, the car is now back to responding in the morning to the remote.

Going back to what i had done with the car last weekend, I think I now know what I did to cause the problem.

On Sunday I decided test the boot size for our Holiday trips. I put my Wife's mobility scooter, Luggage and the food for the dog and coolbox in the boot.

I tried different allocations of the space. I.e Scooter across the back or forwards to the boot lid. It probably took over an hour whilst the boot was open.

Moving on to investigating the "Stationary aircon" settings there is one that says "Run aircon on unlock". I now believe this was the culprit, Although the aircon compressor is run by the HV battery the fan/blower is not.

I now think that running for over an hour with the boot open drained the 12v Battery sufficient to make the car go to sleep until the battery charged back up with use.

I have unselected the option to "Run aircon on unlock"

Do you have the setting to maintain the 12v from HV set? In my ID.4 this is called Optimised Battery Use. Some people don't set it or even unset it as it 'affects range' but the effect is miniscule. Perhaps @domhnall will know what Skoda call the setting?

This week the car stopped responding to the remote again from Monday morning.

Last charged the HV battery last Wednesday.

On charge again this evening.

Will see if it unlocks tomorrow a.m.

Again each day I have been able to wake the car up and unlock it by turning the aircon on with the app.

Still cannot get the cap off the key cover. Am I just being too reluctant to push hard enough in case I break something.

Pull handle and insert blade in hole? I assume you push upwards?

Yep you’ve got it in 1 , my old MG5 would eat the power on heating but air con running it didn’t

Eighth month stats from the car Apr-May

Stat from the GOM the car has been on for 24.18 hours and averaged 11mph.

Thats a good consumption figure. I'd be ecstatic with 4.4m/kWh - my average is more like 4 and overall 3.8 April through September. Winter average is 3.4 m/kWh.

Last nights 5 hour charge on the HV battery did not lead to it opening without the app to start aircon this morning.

Tenth month stats from the car Jun-July

 Includes 256mile To Devon

543mile @ 4.5m/kwh = 120.67 kwh. (63kwh Dc charging £47.70) + [email protected] (16.11) = £63.80

My Mondeo would have  averaged  60 mpg for 256m 0f these 543m (£25.52)

and 35mpg for 287m @£1.329 litre (£49.04) = £74.56

The trip was done with no searching for the cheapest providers just used what ever was available at places where we stopped, once to walk the dog and then for lunch, the car did not dictate the stops and we never waited for it to finish.

Here's the snapshot for 2025 so far:

Distance covered: 7,157.54 miles
Number of trips: 61
Total charging cost: £230.89

The graph below covers both public charging and charging at home both on grid and from solar (which is why the Summer months show close to zero cost).

To put that in perspective: that’s about the cost of 2.7 fill-ups for my diesel VW T6 camper van — which would only get me around 1,168 miles. And that’s with a respectable 40 mpg, hauling beds, a cooker, fridge, and more.

Of course, the economics shift if you can’t charge at home. But for me, home charging not only makes the car cheaper to run — it also slashes our household energy costs. Compared to neighbours still using gas heating, our winter energy bills were around five times lower.

Twelfth month stats from the car Aug-Sep

Includes 256mile  to Devon

468mile @ 4.2m/kwh = 111.42 kwh. (120kwh Dc charging £57.45) + [email protected] (£9.14) = £66.68

My Mondeo would have  averaged  60 mpg for 256m 0f these 468miles (£25.90)

and 35mpg for 212milesm @£1.349 litre (£36.77) = £62.67

Long term guessometer now reset.

Stat from the GOM the car has been on for 19.49 hours and averaged 24mph.

For anyone interested in the twelve month totals. My electricity cost has been £466.26 Diesel would have been £709.79.

If I had a Home wallbox and a smart tariff of 7ppkwh My "home" charging would have been £70.32 making my total ev figure for the year £348.37 so I could have saved another £117.89 Which would probably pay for having a wallbox in 8 years.

Start of year Two stats from the car Sep-Oct.

This maybe the last Monthly because i have now retired, very little mileage to be expected in the Winter so I might go for doing it every 500 miles.

This month Includes 256mile from Devon and 100 miles motorway round trip to Stoke on Trent

411mile @ 4.2m/kwh = 97.85 kwh. (39kwh Dc charging £30.01) + [email protected] (£14.93) = £44.94

My Mondeo would have  averaged  60 mpg for 356m 0f these 411miles (£36.28)

and 35mpg for 55miles @£1.359 litre (£9.61) = £45.89

Long term guessometer now reset.

Stat from the GOM the car has been on for 13.29 hours and averaged 31mph.

I had the same issue recently when we had strong winds — the flap froze halfway and wouldn’t open or close at all. What worked for me was getting into the car, switching the ignition on and off, getting out again, locking and unlocking the car, and then trying the flap button once more. It released straight away after that.

Mine did that last winter, had to use the hairdryer and multiple lock/unlock (use the button on the dashboard to protect your fob battery) and it opened. Then no problems until August when on the motorway stopped to charge and it wouldn't open lock/unlock worked. This time the solenoid had now failed.

I have re-posted in "moments of joy" about the result.

Phoned Skoda assist they came next day (Fri) opened the flap by snapping the pin, ordered the parts (two parts needed to return to undamaged). Came back Saturday and fitted in less than an hour.
