Bilstein B6's on a Sportline?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm thinking of swapping out the standard shocks to Bilstein B6's. I've given Bilstein UK my reg and the fact that it's a Sportline. I asked if the part numbers fire the mk3 were correct for my car. They came back with the comment 'I have had a look into this for you, and these are definitely the correct fitment for you, as long as you have standard suspension'. Now, my Sportline has standard suspension for the Sportline, but that differs to the standard suspension for the Superb 3 in general..... Has anyone fitted the B6's to a Sportline (which has 15mm lower, and stiffer, suspension) to good effect, please? Mine's a 2018 1.4tsi hatchback.

I would say they are referring to you not requiring the damptronic version of the B6’s.

Ah, that makes more sense than what I was assuming. My car is a non DCC, so hopefully I'm good. Thanks!

The Sportline doesn't have standard suspension, ie. standard ride height...it has sports suspension, ie. lowered ride height.

I would go for the Bilstein B8's instead of the Bilstein B6's. I looked at some information and the Bilstein B8's are only 20mm shorter than the Bilstein B6's, so the sometimes quoted opinions that you need at least a 30mm to 40mm drop for the Bilstein B8's to work is incorrect.

This actually makes sense, because Bilstein want to sell their Bilstein B8's in large quantities, not restrict their sales to only cars that have been dropped by at least 30mm to 40mm. The Bilstein listings themselves say that the B6's are for standard suspension and that the B8's are for sports suspension...as you can see in the links below.

Standard suspension = Standard ride height

Sports suspension = Lowered ride height

I have B8's with Eibach springs on mine - wagon 4x4 280, with those and the H&R rear ARB it handles a lot better and is a far smoother drive. I had all new hardware fitted at the same time, I put Audi TT spring pads on the rear rather than the very skinny stock Skoda spring pads.

Had B6's on my Sportline for a year now, very successful mod and totally fixes the lack of body control on the factory setup. For the stock SL springs either B6 or B8 is fine, if you have any consideration to fit lowering springs then get the B8s as they will be better suited.

I have B6 on my Superb (non Sportline) and it totally cured the lack of body control the OEM dampers had. Specially in motorways at high speeds the car feels very stable and nice to drive. Not sporty at any means, but I didn't want to change springs and lose comfort, ride height and deal with homologations, certifications, etc to have it road legal. I remember that B6 work with OEM springs and slightly shorter and B8 are for 30 mm dropped suspension.

My second car is a Mini with this combo (Eibach+B8) and it's really stiff. Very fun, but too stiff for long distances. It's a toy/fun car so I don't mind.

Yep I do not like the ride on anything but Sport DCC on motorways; comfort feels like you could lose the back end on a bend if it’s bumpy. Not changing yet but when these shocks need a refresh it’ll be B6s

Update from me. As mine is a Sportline (already lowered) I've ordered a set of B8's. Unfortunately, I've already been waiting a month for them, and it looks like I'll have to wait at least another month. Not particularly impressed with POTN (the UK distributor) who said they were in stock and have already started charging me for them.....

any updates on people with Sportline superb MK3 cars as to which struts are best? B6 or B8

i have a 2021 mk3 facelift and just wanted to make sure i get the correct struts.

cheers

From the UK distributor, B8's are the ones as they're a touch shorter for the Sportline. I didn't go with them in the end as the leadtimes kept on shifting.

That's a good price if they're in. I tried ordering from POTN in the UK last September - £583 all in. Do think about getting the service pack as well, because of your in there replacing the shocks, you may as well replace the isolators etc. at the same time.

The shocks I ordered (and that Maddie from POTN confirmed would fit my non-DCC Sportline) were 24-229937 x 2 and 35-229919 x 2. I then added 12-243945 x 2 and 12-281459 x 2 to go in the car at the same time.

Do bear in mind that you may wish to confirm this information independently, and that nothing I've said here can be taken as official advice, yada yada yada.....

Check eBay sellers.

There’s a guy I’ve bought both Wagner Tuning intercooler and now Bilstein B16 DCC both for less than anywhere else I found.

This one is called skylinegtr34v - took a punt on the intercooler and came good B16s now sitting here ready to go on and they were delivered from ThyssenKrup Bilstein in Leicester so genuine items.

Nothing to do with the guy aside from a happy customer.
