Can I add Lane Assist?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have front assist, camera in windshield, but Ibdont have Lane assist. I think lane assist works with camera. Is it possible to activate or buy or anythibg, I really need it. Also, I would like to have active cruise control. Any help?

I would suggest speaking to one of the Retrofit companies. Hazzydayz in Markyate (J9 M1) are very good, if it’s possible they will know how to it. There are different cameras, front assist I believe is radar based, I have land assist which uses the camera, in 3000 miles  it’s never done anything, I dont believe I have never got close to a lane white line!  I dont know if it’s any good. The camera spec you need is QK1 there are different spec cameras.

Curious - sure you've got it switched on?

Ours is forever tugging at the wheel, not quite as aggressively as my Superb, but nonetheless you know about it - I some times also get the admonishment chime and 'stay in lane' visual notice.

Unless you drive like a saint and signal each and every lane change I'm very surprised to read you've never felt it......

I honestly wouldn't bother with lane assist. I switch it off every time I get in the car!

Have you driven a car with lane assist before?

It says its switched on in the Infotainment screen setup, but until it does something its impossible to know. I try my best to drive well, but  I know I've had to deviate out of lane to avoid objects and potholes and it hasn't always been possible to signal.  I will have to try and provoke it into action. Mind you most of the local dual carriageway roads I drive on the centre lines are virtually invisible.

I'd give it a test - find a well marked road and deliberately wander (gently) across the center line.

The visual central (at the bottom) dash display also monitors the 'lines', amber for having trouble finding the line and green for locked on........

Agree with others - it surely can't be working?  Don't have it on our car but have driven plenty of VW Group cars with it, including daughter's Kamiq, and it's nagging at you pretty frequently, even just for cracks in the road.  Daughter always turns it off.  One of my neighbours hated it so much on his Karoq that he returned the car and swapped it for an older one without lane assist!

Mine only appears if there is a white line either side of the car. Just one line in the centre of the road isn't enough to activate it.

That's weird, mine detects a single line ...

On my dashboard the left hand side will show the single white line but the "lane assist" icon does not light up until there are two. No idea if that is what it's supposed to do but it sounds right.

The centre line of a road is just that, it marks the centre of the carriageway, you can cross it when needed. If the system activated it would argue with you passing parked cars?

Don't forget that it only works above a certain speed, around 40-45mph.

I had a problem with mine, as I live in a rural area with many quite fast, quite narrow single carriageway roads, wher it was difficult to drive without staying to close to the centre line for the system. It would also moan at me to 'stay in the middle of your lane' or similar. Luckily I have been able to switch mine off permanently.

Be careful what you wish for. All the people I know who have it on their cars curse it saying it is more likely to cause an accident then prevent one, especially on twisty country roads where it can try to lurch the car into the oncoming traffic.

Mine certainly activates with only a line on one side, so yours seems to work differently.

You can try this guide if you have 2Q camera in the windshield if you have vagcom or obdeleven.

https://forum.obdeleven.com/thread/23676/fabia-my2023-adaptive-assist-activation

Acc needs Feq/Swap licence which you cannot do it by yourself.
