Forget to say it's a 2016 superb estate 2l diesel 150bhp

I moved to all-weathers (Kumho) earlier this year, for the first time ever on any car, and my grip in the rain is superior to when I was driving 4x4 in an Xtrail.

I decided on Michelin cross climate 2 tyres all four wheels, expensive but makes car very quiet. covered about 1500 miles and very happy with them up to now.

I really like the Goodyear turanza t005

good grip and wet holding in my opinion. But they have slightly started to crack on the shoulders after 2 years.

when you say you need new tyres, is it due to tread wear or damage or something else?

as there may be a different issue causing premature wear

It's even wear, so I assume there isn't any issues. I'm just surprised that they only lasted 25,000km. I would expect longer as it's mostly city driving and I am not doing any crazy driving.

City driving tends to mean more stopping/starting and tighter turning.

id assume this would wear tyres quicker than a constant speed in a fairly straight line.

could be wrong on this though, just a theory

I'm on 5mm after 15.000 hard life miles on michelin pilot sport 5. Very, very good grip and wear resistance but louder than the hankook ventus prime 2 they replaced. Loud(er) enough to notice after waiting an entire hour for fitting, with a new to me superb i had for a week

I'm still on the original Goodyear Eagles (though I've had to replace 1 or 2 due to punctures). Done around 28,500 miles on them and still plenty of life left but my miles are mostly motorway.

Car has done 41,500 but the other miles were on my Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons that I swap over to during winter.

Done very well!

My originals were Perellis and they didnt last 3 years before cracking and falling apart!

Yes I'm pretty happy with that overall. Once the Eagles are worn out I'll probably just leave the 4 Seasons on all year round. Switching tyres and storing them costs a bit and I don't reckon the 4 Seasons are really much worse in summer than the Eagles.

But I should get at least one more summer on the Eagles so they will be on 40k or more by the time I'm finished with them🤞

As some above have said, if you are in need of new boots, go with all-wather tyres. I would recommend either Goodyear Vector 4seasons, or Michelin CrossClimate - have had both fitted on my cars recently and both have performed well.

My car (not a Superb) came with Pirelli P7s.  I know someone that also had cracking (keeps them all year, doesn't swap around so rears still have plenty of tread), but I switch to winters, and mine are 6.5 years old, done about 35-40k miles, still got around 3.5mm tread on all four.

Of course the P7s are on in summer when sun is stronger so I don't buy into the theory it is just UV that causes cracking.  As I know others who use winters that don't get cracking, I am of opinion that using summer tyres on cold mornings when they are hard and more brittle causes tiny cracks which subsequently became bigger cracks, especially at the block tread part near edges which takes cornering load.

My recommendation is to swap tyres front to back every 8-12k miles, then pick good all seasons.  Any from this shortlist depending on price and availability (some might not be in required size)

Bridgestone Turanza all season 6

Continental all season contact 2

Falken all season AS220 pro

Michelin cross climate 2

Pirelli Cinturato all season SF3

possibly also following (although not latest)

Goodyear vector 4 season gen 3

Hankook kinergy 4S2 (being replaced by new Ion flex climate)

Vredestein Quatrac

I’ve got the Good asymmetric 6’s on mine, good grip in all weather its seen (rarely get ice/snow) where I am, much quieter than P7’s

I will however be fitting Michelin cross climate 2’s on my wife’s 500 as heard good things

I hated the Pirelli's P7, Im using Michelin Pilot Sport 5 for the summer and Crossclimate 1's for winter.  Both have been great.
