water vapour from exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a mk3 facelift 2019 VRS 2.0 TFSI 245 on 39k, and almost ever since I got it, I've noticed that under hard(ish acceleration) there is what I believe is water vapour out of the tail pipes. I mostly do short journeys but this still happens even after a 3-4 hour journey. The tail pipes are not black (so not soot), the back window that "mists up" wipes clean by the wiper and isn't oily or greasy. The engine Oli is not contained/milky and I've not needed to top the water up.
Generally the car seems fine.
Is this just a "thing" ?

Perfectly normal and very common.  If you search, you'll find plenty of threads about it on here.

Gaz

Mine does same ,its annoying when you have just cleaned the windows too 😥,tis the only car ive owned that does this tho.

Burning petrol or diesel creates water. Water vapour is a normal part of the exhaust.

I have a 2015 220 TSi and have exactly the same 'signs' as you, got it checked by garage even after reading everything on here. Same result, perfectly normal.

For every gallon of hydrocarbons your car burns it creates slightly over a gallon of water. This is secondary school level chemistry.

i've got a 2019 mk3.5 vrs 245 petrol hatchback (essentially what you have) on 22k, had it since it was 9 months old on 6k and its always done it, i do 8 miles daily for work and some other shortish trips midweek and weekends (10-20 miles) and mine still does it, been checked by skoda under warranty and by my local trustable indy, perfectly fine, as others have said its just water vapour, probably doesn't help that mines parked facedown downhill so any water will trickle down the exhaust, my indys recommendation? when up to temp give it a few boot fulls to clean the pipes out, lightcliffe skoda also told me to do the same and if the police stop me about it to tell them to ring skoda so got my free speeding pass 🤣 get it checked if you're genuinely concerned they'll probably pressure test the coolant tank and take it for a run but it is a known thing, fella who did the pointing on my house has the exact same car on an 18 plate and when i asked him about flooring it and in general in winter he said "do you activate your cloud system too?" we had a good laugh about it, just a VAG feature

This concerned me too.

When I first got the car I gave it a good blast home up the motorway and noticed it.

Still does it now, car doesn't and hasn't missed a beat.

So a bit of common sense and reading bits on here, seems it's just water vapour and nothing to worry about 👍
