New to me 2020 L&K with some niggles

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently upgraded my Octavia 3 and now have a 2020 L&K TDI with low mileage and FSH. from a main Skoda dealer so i've got warranty

i've been so impressed with the car so far, but have a few small niggles and noises i'd like to seek advice about, in order of annoyance:

1. Auto hold brake pedal click noise. When the car stops and i take my foot off the brake, the car holds but as soon as my foot lifts completely off, the pedal makes a rather loud click noise. When auto hold is off it doesn't happen Anyone else had this and know the fix?

2. rattle behind the driver seat. It sounds like its coming from inside the B pillar or somewhere in the rear of the car. It wasn't there when i first got the car 500 miles or so ago. any key places to check? I will try getting in the back with my wife driving soon to ear up a few areas to locate it..

3. rattle when revs are over 3k from under the steering column. Sounds like plastic on plastic vibrating when i put my foot down a bit. nothing seems loose and i am yet to get stuck in to look under.- is there a common issue here?

4. lack of radio control when using android auto. I can't even see what station i'm listening to on the screen wtf? Don't get me started on no Waze on the speedo screen..

5. updating the maps - its stuck on 2020, i've tried downloading and updating via SD card in both slot 1 and 2 and the car doesn't seem to be able to find the files

6. lag when trying to turn on heated seat / steering wheel when first starting the car. it takes a good 15 seconds for the pop up on the screen to show me the heated, cooled and steering wheel controls.

7. lane assist - take over steering beep beep - i'm going in a straight line! i have to move the wheel left or right to stop the alert, why isn't there a sensor that i'm holding the wheel?

8. The lack of a back button on the information system - want to go from background lighting to the settings menu. NOPE go all the way back to menu, settings, scroll to where you were

all in all i'm still really glad i upgraded, the comfort, matrix headlights and stereo are worth it alone!

Turn "Lane Enforce" off; it sounds like you don't need it anyway.

Funny, I just came here to ask about this in my topic.
I have the same thing happening, hopefully it's fixable and not a standard.

You should be able to setup virtual cockpit to show what's currently playing. Not sure if that's what you are looking for.

Wait, there should be back arrow on top right corner. You mean it's not always there?

this not normal.  there shouldn't b any pops/bangs/clicks when u release the brake pedal, regardless of auto hold being active or not.

2. rattle behind the driver seat. It sounds like its coming from inside the B pillar or somewhere in the rear of the car. It wasn't there when i first got the car 500 miles or so ago. any key places to check? I will try getting in the back with my wife driving soon to ear up a few areas to locate it..

sounds like a fuel line rattle. it runs under the driver's side floor.

3. rattle when revs are over 3k from under the steering column. Sounds like plastic on plastic vibrating when i put my foot down a bit. nothing seems loose and i am yet to get stuck in to look under.- is there a common issue here?

4. lack of radio control when using android auto. I can't even see what station i'm listening to on the screen wtf? Don't get me started on no Waze on the speedo screen..

this is normal android auto behaviour in all cars - it takes over the screen.  if u want to see ur radio stations, change the virtual cluster to audio/media, and it will show u the radio station ur listening too.

5. updating the maps - its stuck on 2020, i've tried downloading and updating via SD card in both slot 1 and 2 and the car doesn't seem to be able to find the files

MIB3 units r updated "over the air" i believe.

6. lag when trying to turn on heated seat / steering wheel when first starting the car. it takes a good 15 seconds for the pop up on the screen to show me the heated, cooled and steering wheel controls.

that is normal.

7. lane assist - take over steering beep beep - i'm going in a straight line! i have to move the wheel left or right to stop the alert, why isn't there a sensor that i'm holding the wheel?

that is normal.  u need to touch the steering wheel every 12-secs to show that ur alive and in control.  i don't believe Skoda uses capacitive steering (knows ur holding the wheel) in any of their models.  VW & Audi do in some of their models.

8. The lack of a back button on the information system - want to go from background lighting to the settings menu. NOPE go all the way back to menu, settings, scroll to where you were

that is normal for MIB2.5 and MIB3 units - no buttons.

all in all i'm still really glad i upgraded, the comfort, matrix headlights and stereo are worth it alone!

congratulation on ur upgrade 🙂

responses in blue above....

6: Lag. Bloody irritating some days I can’t even use the wipers for what seems like forever.

Hey,

I can provide some answers from my experience with my Superb iV 2020 L&K:
1. This shouldn't be normal, usually I am not using auto-hold, unless it's a really busy road then usually I am braking, then on full stop I activate the auto hold and release the brake pedal

2. Might be worth checking the fuel rattle

3. I also have some rattle coming from the left piece of ****ty piano plastic that's below the virtual cockpit. I had a friend that deals with detailing stuff and he managed to take out every plastic & virtual cockpit cluster to trynna tighten things there. Still have some rattle here and there, not so noticeable tho.

4. While using android auto, I can switch radio stations. However, I don't have any control over the music I'm listening from YT.

5. Welcome to the club! I see you have SD card, I don't have any SD card slot, but only a USB Type-C port in the front console but still, I am facing the same issue! I got the car with navigation database version 23.6, and I tried literally everything and I'm stuck with it ( I went to several Skoda services, however their tech guys are usually looking dumb at my car saying they have no idea what's wrong )

6. I had a lot of lag as well... and other connectivity issues with Skoda Connect ( Skoda Digital Services are a joke btw ). Please remove the fuse F17 from the fuse panel (located behind the storage compartment on the driver's side), then leave it for 10 minutes ( SOS led should turn off ), then plug the fuse back. It says it's the fuse for the instrument cluster aka virtual cockpit, but generally speaking, this is more like a hardware reset - please check: https://vwts.ru/forum/topic/247212/

7. Get used to it! There is no capacitive sensor on the steering wheel ( they put that on the Superb 2024, eventually... ) so if that bothers you, deactivate it!

8. Also get used to it.

Capacitive steering wheel is certainly on my 2020 L&K. If I get the "take over steering" it's because I'm holding the wheel too lightly with one hand or something, and a quick squeeze of the fingers stops the alert. No moving the wheel.

Maybe OP has dry fingers. My Mrs has, anything that needs touch, like the oven hob or a phone often doesn't respond for her but works perfectly for me.

SD Card slot -> Mib2 or Mib2.5 High, for Amundsen original card required or some with cloned serial number

Type-C port -> Mib3

I was actually referring to the capacitive sensor that is much more convenient on the new 2024 Superb than the one we've got on ours. I believe the sensor we have does not actually detect your hands on the wheel, but rather any movements you are doing (so the pressure you are applying). If you have watched any videos with the new 2024 Superb, just a slight tap on the steering wheel is necessary

Thanks all. UPDATE:

1. Auto hold brake pedal click noise.  Still doing it - I will book it in to be checked after Christmas. a gentle release of the pedal and it doesn't click..

2. rattle behind the driver seat. It sounds like its coming from inside the B pillar or somewhere in the rear of the car. I wrapped electrical tape around the rear door latch, rear seat latch and isofix latch point. One of the 3 areas with tape it has now stopped the rattle hurrah!

3. rattle when revs are over 3k from under the steering column. Sounds like plastic on plastic vibrating when i put my foot down a bit. seems to have solved itself - I did get down and have a look and pushed a piece of rubber back onto a clip.

4. lack of radio control when using android auto. I can't even see what station i'm listening to on the screen wtf? Don't get me started on no Waze on the speedo screen.. Getting used to it now, using the speedo screen

5. updating the maps - its stuck on 2020, i've tried downloading and updating via SD card in both slot 1 and 2 and the car doesn't seem to be able to find the files I've now updated this via SD card. I used a windows machine to format and unzip rather than my MacBook. Worked first time

6. lag when trying to turn on heated seat / steering wheel when first starting the car. it takes a good 15 seconds for the pop up on the screen to show me the heated, cooled and steering wheel controls. this seems to be okay now, if I give it a few seconds before pressing it it's ok

7. lane assist - take over steering beep beep - i'm going in a straight line! i have to move the wheel left or right to stop the alert, why isn't there a sensor that i'm holding the wheel? I'm now used to this, a very very slight movement either way, not affecting the direction of the car stops the alert

8. The lack of a back button on the information system - want to go from background lighting to the settings menu. NOPE go all the way back to menu, settings, scroll to where you were is what it is

Another issue I've encountered - storing seat positions, for some reason my car needs a double press of the SET button then 1 2 or 3 for it to store. Finally figured it out after lots of trying!

air care - why isn't this always on? I have to go in via menu to turn it on

Regarding rattles, get yourself a roll of felt tape and keep around in the car. You'll need it.

Rattles i've found so far:

Button on instrument cluster

Crap in the doors (outer side has felt liner, inner side is hard plastic. Tf)

Bottom of b pillars, the plastic trim comes unclipped at the bases

Rear central console. Creaks over uneven road. Manhandling it a bit around seems to fix it for the season

Rear seat bases, clips are one time use apparently

Subwoofer side rear seat bolster. Rattles at the top, easy to find playing frequency generator. Wedged a cloth in there

Subwoofer side boot panel. Bit of tape on the plastic latch

2 blanking caps on the boot trim that allows the boot latch to go through. Very well hidden, on side towards front of the car, just above hazard triangle storage space. These have been bugging me for the longest time

3'rd brake light plastic cover. Wedge tape in there

Door puddle lights from kopacek. The projector ones rattle from speaker vibrations

That is all, i think. Being a skoda there will be fresh ones come spring

I've finally had time to sort a couple of the creaks/rattles in the car.

1. knee area when revs were over 2.5k. This turned out to be the ODB port plug rattling within the plastic trim. I removed the small cubby hole by pulling the bottom out and unclipping the ODB port before wrapping it in some fabric tape. Put back in and the rattle is gone!

2. The armrest. Took it apart and out of the car, stuck some felt all over the underside of the leather top, but it was too thick to clip back into place. I ended up taking it off and cutting small 1" long strips and placed them randomly around the arm rest. I then covered the whole of the underside plastic trim in fabric tape, including wrapping every single clip. Pushed it together with a bit of force and it's done. completley silent and wow does it change the feel of the car - much more premium.

3. around the lights / emergency buttons / cubby for sunglasses. That trim almost fell off when i pulled it - more fabric tape around it and its no longer making a noise when driving.

all in all happy boy today who loves the car more than ever. Just the clicking brake pedal to sort!!
