Modify for performance at 180k miles, or not

Featured Replies

I have a 2018 Superb Estate SE L EXEC 2.0 TDI 150hp, and after seeing the "Sleeper Edition" I was dreaming of doing something similar to my ex-taxi, considering there are zero TSI 4x4's for sale in Ireland. Has the engine done too many miles at 180k to even think about Stage 1 re-map, air intake, turbo, brakes and exhaust change? What would you do? Cheers

Welcome.

Leave the car well alone.

Does your car have a DSG?

1) I'd have bought a different car.

2) I'd talk to a tuner about a sympathetic stage 1 tune and do nowt else unless you're absolutely rolling in cash, in which case see point 1).

It does have DSG. Yeah was thinking the same, but i have this ex-taxi now and i was just thinking what could be done to her! Prob best waiting until i upgrade to a TSI - whenever that'll be!

Why not have two cars? Your comfy sensible car, and a fun toy. A quick search on  Autotrader turned up this as a random example.

£2.5k would get you this, rather than a load of mods which might well damage your Superb.

I think most cars respond well to a mild tune, at any stage of life, but if you want to go with more invasive actions, you will put more strain on powerplant and drivetrain and therefore you should assess their condition beforehand, and with a trustable specialist not just some youtuber tuner with a laptop.

I have many friends with tuned cars with many thousands of km, some have no issues, some had catastrophic failures. No recipe bulletproof for this, moment you start to play, you do upset the balance ....

A tuned car for daily will also impact comfort, consumption, "discretion" if is an issue - case in point, louder exhaust, and quality of the maintenance - brakes, oils, all need to be upgraded as well.

All is fine as long as weighted in, I've played this for years now I prefer not to bother, and as EnterName put it above, have a toy which if you break is on you.
