2 eBay CAI's. Which one?

Featured Replies

Hi

Little confused, I know some people have expensive CAI's, but ive been reading alot of old posts about CAI's and the eBay one comes well recommended. (I know some people will disagree, but here is one of the posts where it is recommended: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/general-car-chat/ebay-cai/38569/?highlight=CAI)

So been looking, and the people on here that have the eBay one seem to have the one from 800bhp, and in my other post about CAI's i was given a link to view one on eBay, i then emailed 800bhp  and he gave me a different link to one on eBay??.

This is where im confused. Below are the 2 links, both CAI's are for the Octavia 1.8t, but they look different? the pipe looks about the same, but the filters are different and the one from 800bhp doesnt have the extra filter?

Is this something that is needed for the Octavia? Which is the correct one before i order?

I got one from 800bhp a week ago. if noise is your thing then you will love it although it was a bit hard to fit. I had it on for 48 hours then took it off because the noise was not to my tastes.

I have the one in the second link it's fine and a great noise too, a bit loud for some perhaps, but "french connection uk it" the car is yellow!!!

Bit of a mare to fit though. 1.5 hours with the front bumper off. But all came good at the end and a damn sight cheaper too!

i like the look of both of these especially at those prices;)

are they safe with the uk weather though as the last thing you would want is to suck up any water:eek:.

how exposed to the rain are they and are they waterproofed as the likes of k+n etc are.

from what i have read they are high up near the light, so unless you are going through a flood they should be fine, i also think you shouldnt drill out the front bumper (left side) to allow more air in as this will also allow more water in if your worried about this. Personally i dont go anywhere where it wouldnt get more than a inch high......

Im gonna get one of the eBay ones, and want to order this next week. The noise is the main reason, but there also cheap :) just love it :) but which one to get? did the one from 800bhp have the extra filter? and what is this for?

Cheers

The extra filter is for the crankcase breather (i think). The second type diverts this pipe back into the intake so no need for filter. I would go for the filter type personally as if the car starts breathing too heavilly you'll get oil mist going through the afm/maf.

The one for the Octy vRS is the second one, and this is the one I currently have on my car, there is no need to take the bumper off at all. Just take out the battery and there is a hole big enough to get the filter and pipe into, and this puts the filter behind the bumper.................................. Easy Peasy

It is high enough to be out of the way of rain and standing water.

Fourty mins max to fit and drive off.

what about the lack of breather filter on the 2nd one though as has been pointed out it could have an affect on the maf.

the 1st one looks more bling as well imho:rofl:

Not quite sure how it looks more bling???? It is a piece of 3" metal pipe with a filter on the end:P

not sure on the need for the extra filter or not. Can't really see how it would affect the maf either. The pipe goes to the secondary air pump by the looks of it and you never had an extra filter with the standar air box so i can't honestly see why you would need one with the CAI. The pipe is connected down wind of the cone filter anyway just the same as with a standard set up.

to be honest i had never even thought of where the stock one goes:O

looks like you are correct and that a seperate breather isnt actually needed:thumbup:

not sure why i like the look of the top one more, probably just the fact that you get more parts for your money:rofl:

ok, i want to understand what this blue pipe does in the pic, from looking at it, its connected to that black pipe that goes off somewhere else (not looked on the car yet so dont know) so what is the black pipe for?

I assume here, that its any excess mixture that is put back into the inlet pipe to be burnt again? hence the car has a recirc setup? if thats the case, then why vent this out with an additional filter? or have i got this completely wrong and now look like a complete idiot :)

The extra pipe isnt a breather its for the secondary air injection. During warm up air is drawn through this pipe, into the secondary pump and then fed into the exhaust. It needs to be filtered hence it normally being connected to the air filter housing.

ok so im an idiot :)

So going back to my original post, do i get the 800bhp one or the other one with the extra filter?

Up to you, as long as you get some filter to put on the end of the pipe.

The extra pipe isnt a breather its for the secondary air injection. During warm up air is drawn through this pipe, into the secondary pump and then fed into the exhaust. It needs to be filtered hence it normally being connected to the air filter housing.

So as long as it is filtered through the actual air filter itself then surely this would be good enough as this is what the standard set up is like?

I don't understand what the extra filter is for. I can only see it as being of use if that pipe cannot be connected to the CAI pipe somehow then the filter woulc be fastened to the end of the secondary air pipe??

Thats correct.

Ok, had a look on me car, the pipe goes from the airbox along the front of the engine and then down, but cannot see where it ends up though.

Also, looking where this CAI goes when fitted, it looks like it wont get any air in there?? there is a space under the headlight, but how does air get there? the std one disappears into the left front wheel arch???

Think i need to get myself a haynes manual or something :)

It goes down to the secondary air injection pump (as I said above).

der!! sorry, typed it in a hurry as match was on and wanted to post before it started :)

So after all that, its the 800bhp one that is the correct one?

Also, any comment on where it goes?

so looking at the pics once again:rolleyes:it would appear that the 800bhp one is ok as it looks as if the small pipe fits onto the main pipe as you can see the outlet for it.

obviously any air taken from this will have already passed through the main cone filter.

thats that sorted then:thumbup:

TO ANSWER THE QUESTION.......

imho i would go for the first one .....as it seems to come with a twin cone filter ,so more surface area for air to be drawn in

ohh didnt see that, have PM him. :) Cheers Sarah.

If its a no go then will get eBay one!!!
