Looks that way.  You could try to get a non-locking but you want a good fit regardless.

"Škoda part number: 6U0 201 553 A"

"cap for the tank neck, lockable, intended for vehicles manufactured after MY 1998, facelift"

"Part origin: Czech Republic - OE producer (Czech Republic - OE producer)"

"Availability of this item is currently unknown.
This item is unavailable from 13.2.2023. We currently do not know delivery day of this item. If you are interested, use a query form below, or contact us, we'll try to get more information for you."

"30,81 € incl. VAT"

https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/6u0201553a-tank-cap-m98-czech-republic-oe-producer-2794.html

Might sound a daft idea but have you tried a current VWŠkoda Dealership parts department, I remember someone on here getting an old part a seal perhaps from a Dealership at a very good price (old non-updated pricing perhaps) or try an old former VWŠKoda Dealership that's now independent.  Or if you have an old motor factors place or shop near you you can be very surprised at the stock they might have or tucked away, when they go so often does the old expertise and stock.

Perhaps a supplier in the Czech Republic or the Germany might hold stock if anyone knows of such places.

As aftermarket since my factory's cap lock it's damaged I have the Valeo, has small key more convenient (since the factory key won't fit on it).

FYI emission-related equipment will be available for a long long time

genuine and available, I can source it

Items like these may remain available but finding someone who stocks them is a different matter, then sells at what price, €29 for a plastic locking cap is a high price but it has to fit and if it is in stock, an expensive petrol cap in your hand is better than any number of less expensive petrol caps not in stock.

This is why I suggest trying a Dealership in the UK or if they have it and ex-Dealership parts that might sell at old stock price or if it's feel off stock or computer list cheap and money in tea-jar.

The difference is only in the key format being used, later models used HAA type keys, earlier models a more traditional type key.

hm so mine definitely the 553A version, where to get?

I think your best bet is to source one with a key from a breaker / donor vehicle.

You could do with cleaning the water drain hole out aswell.

I noticed that too but forgot about it, you posted.

I noticed it because last year my wife had a hire car for a few weeks, it was about a year old, obviously it got cleaned frequently but the cleaners never opened the fuel flap as there was lots of debris there and blocking the hole.

I cleared the hole and drain pipe by putting a stiff piece of wire up from the bottom of the drain tube under the car up, that way the muck is pushed up and out of the hole on the shortest path and not compacting it.  I made sure the end of wire wasn't sharp so that it wouldn't put a hole in what looked like black rubber drain hose hanging under the car.  With the hole open I poured hot water down the drain tube using a small funnel to direct it.  I put hot water down until I saw it was at full flow coming out of the bottom.  IIRC on cleaning the outside of the hose I found it was actually clear plastic tube.

I went with buying a ridiculously expensive genuine one new old stock after some hesitation because ebay said it did not fit. It does fit and the part No 553a is clearly shown on the base. The pattern part I bought before does not fit even though to my eye it looks identical and ebay says it does. Thats all I know.

No, no it was a hire car anything needed like that and the car would be back to them and replaced,  It was a 2023 VW SEAT and sat high enough that I could see the pipe hanging from the underside a good few inches and easy to get at using a flexible bit of copper cable or metal wire I have hanging in the shed.

This is what I say about databases and information and the need to check, double check and cross reference particularly compatibility and superseded lists,  Many eBay sellers use lists that they may pick up from others and there will be errors and omissions.  Same for car parts manufacturers databases, lists  As websites can carry so much information errors seem to have increased because the databases and lists are so large now it costs too much in time, effort and money to correct them even if they are pointed out by customer who get the wrong part sent to them.
