Dealership Offers

Featured Replies

My 2022 1.5 SE L is approaching 3 years old, I’m getting ‘personalised’ offers to upgrade my car with substantial financial support from Marriot group and ŠKODA. No mention of £figures of course,  I hate dealing with sales people - anyone on here have any likely exchange costs etc ? 🤔

Just sales patter.   Do you own the car outright?

They want your car to resell and as cheap as you will sell for and they want you to buy a car. They are in a the motor trade, that is what they do.

Simply just ask them to give a price for your car.    They will talk about cost to change.

In the last 5 days I've had an email,a letter and today a message from Marriott's offering me exactly the same " personalised offer ". Their department's clearly don't communicate with each other, because if they did they'd know that I'm awaiting delivery of a new Karoq in the next couple of weeks 😆

Yes I own it outright and am very pleased done approx K15

Too many variables to give an accurate figure; spec, condition and what you’re trading it against all play a part.

Put your reg into one of the online car buying sites, Carwow, Motorway etc. and that’ll give you a figure to play with.

I’ve used Motorway once before and it was a seamless, easy process.

There are some decent deals at various dealers going on at the moment too, I’ve just taken advantage of 0% APR on a PCP offer.

put your reg into WBAC to get a value for yours

then Have a search on Autotrader for new Karoqs in stock https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?advertising-location=at_cars&make=Skoda&model=Karoq&postcode=NG92fj&sort=price-asc&year-from=new

Just check the specs in detail though, there are still some pre-edition vehicles out there

I changed my Oct 2021 Karoq back in Oct last year, got around 6.5k off the list price of a new 1.5 SEL DSG and a PX offer which matched the WBAC price. I did have to take PCP finance to get the deposit contribution. Think it cost me around £10k in total to change.

PX matched WBAC price because that was dead easy for the sales person, they know that can just punt it that way.

That was not the best price that could have been achieved though.

Probably not, but was it worth the hassle!. WBAC would have almost certainly found something to reduce the price on inspection. Then I'd have had to arrange to get to the dealer which was 50 miles away to collect the new car. They also got their service dept to transfer my space saver spare and fittings to the new car ( yes I know its not that difficult! )

Looking at the price the dealer had my old car up for, by the time they'd paid for a warranty and some discount, they weren't making much profit

It was very likely the best price from WBAC.

just not the best The Dealership could do, or MOTORWAY or even going direct to a Trader /  Dealer that needs to buy at Auction anyway or take trade ins.

Some would rather cut out the middle man / BCA or WBAC.

Work out what it would cost in maintenance on your 3 year old Karoq for the next 3 years. Compare that to the cost to change figure include all the costs related to the new car including servicing, loss of interest if paying cash using savings and VED. Remember VED rates for cars over 40k in years 2 to 5 incur an extra £410 on top of the £190 per year. First year VED now is much higher. Your 2022 Karoq list price was probably under the £40k threshold. I suspect that true cost to change will be 2 or 3 times the cost of keeping your current Karoq.

He may not have got £6.5K off without the p/x though.

What are the current broker prices on Karoq SEL?  I got a good price through Boundless (using Griffin) a couple of years ago but I would have had to collect the car from Aldershot (I'm in Chester).   Bearing in mind I've had several issues on collection with new cars, I really don't fancy buying one at any great distance.

I was surprised the dealer we p/x'd our Tiguan to for £11.500 put it up for £12,995.  I enquired about changing the Karoq (bought at 16mths old) for a new one as we had some issues with it initially and they seemed to want £10K across it. based on what they had 2yr old ones up for.

Ours is due for first MOT in a couple of weeks and I emailed the sales guy we got it off to see if we could have a chat while I'm in - I got a read receipt for the email in 10 mins but he hasn't replied, so I assume they're not that bothered about trying to sell new ones.

It's never going to make financial sense to keep changing cars.  Buy the cheapest car you can and run until it has to be scrapped.  But what's the fun in that? :)

You should have mentioned a desire to go 'EV'.......😀 I bet he'd have been straight back.

Great satisfaction, fun even for me

Funnily enough - I asked if they had an Elroq yet that I could look at.

As it happens, I got a generic email off the dealer a couple of days ago to say they'll be the first in the country to get an Elroq for a few days but it goes back the day before I'm due to go in.

Thanks for all the wise replies. I’ve come to my senses ( after getting price from WBAC ) mine has actually done 13K and still feels new and even smells new 😀. My next ponder is wether to purchase ŠKODA extended warranty my initial thought is no 🤔

I had a similar experience with my original dealer. When I was thinking of changing, I emailed him to ask what new or pre-reg he had in stock. I go no reply, thought maybe he's not ther anymore,  so after a few days went to their website and requested a sales callback. Still got no reply, that was when I went to Autotrader, found something I was interested in, requested a call,  and within 30 mins salesman called back. It seems some dealers just can't be bothered!

Interestingly, about a month later I got a email from the original salesman asking if I was considering changing !! Replied back to tell him I had emailed him a month ago and that the 'ship had sailed' now. Still haven't got any reply to that...

The WBAC price is more than £1,500 less than the car can maybe sell to someone private or in the trade for actual cash money.
