Remap check........CR TDI 170

Featured Replies

Is there a way with VCDS I can see if my car has been remapped?

In the service book there is an eco remap printout with a stated power figure but it also said the DPF and EGR had been deleted and they haven't according to VCDS.

205bhp for an economy map on a CR170 seems a bit off to me. It's not a dyno printout, just a stated bhp and lbft.

I want to have the diesel gate fix software removed but concerned if the car is running above standard power or has been modified, i'll notice the difference 😄

Last thing I want is engine management lights etc too.

I had the emissions fix rolled back a couple of years after having a remap to allegedly 184hp, it made no difference at all to the power and response, economy increased slightly and it feels even smoother on part throttle running, big difference is only hearing the fans running on after shutdown once every 18 months!!!!!

VCDS will not tell you if you have a DPF, only what the differential pressure sender says is the pressure drop and if it really has been removed then there may be something like an EGR emulator/simulator to give expected but false readings to the ECU.

The EGR delete if done was almost certainly done by an emulator/simulator, the engine and VCDS will still think it is there (which it is physically) and doing as its commanded.

My rollback was done by Celtic Tuning whose remap I had, they would have done them both together with the rollback FOC but Covid restrictions meant I could not get to them, the remap was done by an agent garage.

So my issue is, the car could be remapped. The garage I bought it from said yes, it has an economy remap and there is a print out in the paperwork with the car. The salesman said it doesn't feel any different to a normal tdi 170 when you drive it though. I do agree, it doesn't feel as quick as my old 320d but apart from paying for a dyno run or driving another CR170 car, I can't think of another way of telling.

The remap paper work doesn't really tell me much, it looks like a software map has been applied without a dyno run etc. It says the DPF and EGR have been deleted but the standard EGR is definitely on the car and I am getting soot level readings and regens every 150 miles-ish.

I have spoken to a reputable tuner today who remapped my previous BMW and various friends VAG cars and it is £150 to roll back the diesel gate fix software.

The EGR is my concern. I don't know if the standard one was playing up and they mapped it out or if it is still functioning.

I don't want to end up in a situation where potential DPF and EGR issues the previous owner experienced could all return with me putting the car back to standard. At the moment though, it looks like the car could actually be standard!

3 regens a tank of diesel is crazy really and I watch the fuel needle move when it is doing it.

I have just had a brain wave.

When did Skoda start the emissions fix roll out? I can check the date on the map paperwork and if the emissions fix comes after, I'll know it was wiped by Skoda.

Command the EGR valve using output tests in VCDS see if you can see/hear the actuator moving, look at the actuator position using live data.

Do the same for the throttle valve.

If they all move physically and the position sensors move as they should do then I would say the EGR has not been "mapped out", TBH I have always been very suspicious of that term, that you are experiencing frequent regens suggests to me that the DPF has not been "mapped out" either.

VCDS should report the software  version of the engine ECU, others with better knowledge than me will be able to decipher it for you.

In my country if you put a remapped car into the main dealer for servicing or repairs they will delete the software and re-install the original manufacturers one and then charge you a fortune for the privilege, they won't ask you or inform you they just do it, if you refuse to pay they impound the vehicle.

That could well be what has happened to your vehicle.

It is no different in the UK too. Any software modifications would mean the car being put back to standard by Skoda.

I will check the date of the remap but I have a feeling it was 2014 which would be before Skoda carried out the correction map work.

Update - I have just checked and Skoda did the emissions correction map in 2016.

It then had a Quantum Performance remap in 2019.

So I need to work out what was done to the DPF and EGR.
