Clutch pedal stuck

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, the clutch pedal is sticking to the floor on my octavia 1.4 67 plate it happens once every couple days I can ATM get my foot behind it and lift it back but has me worried in traffic ,I have had a look at the forum and it seems it could be slave cylinder, or master cylinder can anyone help which parts would in need ,is master cylinder same a clutch master cylinder and is the slave cylinder next to gearbox not inside

Thankyou

Yes to both questions. And slave cylinder is concentric. Replacement is gearbox down...

Clutch fluid shares same reservoir as brake fluid. Try firstly to bleed the slave. It could just dirt in clutch fluid system. Use at least one ltr of fluid to bleed and wash out any debris and dirt from system. Could be as easy as that since the pedal works now and then. It indicates a working slave cylinder imho. Could be the master of course and that might be just a bad spring or clutch pedal linkage arm.

Sorry if this sound stupid but is slave cylinder and slave cylinder concentric 2 different parts ,are you saying SCC is not in the gearbox and it's outside (so slightly easier job to fix) thankyou for your help

Same part on a manual gearbox. The slave cylinder is concentric on these cars and are an integrated part of the clutch pressure release bearing inside the gearbox. Thats why it is a pita to replace vs other cars that more than often have the slave cylinder outside the gearbox and therefore not integrated with the release bearing.

Not sure but I might have read on here that mk3 1.4 has the slave cylinder next to gearbox and not in ,if anyone can clarify ,thanks

Use your eyes and not your keyboard, you are the one who can see what is fitted to your vehicle.

Not everyone Is eagles eyed as you , if I knew than I wouldn't be asking, but thankyou for writing your response on a keyboard

My 08 plate 1.9tdi did the same. Eventually failed completely. When it got recovered fluid drained out from engine under tray as it was being winched onto transporter. Master cylinder had failed and was leaking. I replaced it and bled system and been fine ever since. On mine the pipes push clip into master cylinder. There is a small rubber grommet for sealing that usually gets left in the old one and it wont seal without it. Check for leaks at master cylinder and also slave if you can see it. On my sons mk1 fabia the slave is outside the gearbox but the actuator is inside. His was leaking as the rubber bellows on actuator rod had split inside the bell housing. As said try bleeding first and check for leaks. If its leaking badly then the level will be dropping in reservoir.

@Faly See dm. Send me your vin nr and I'll check etka for your car. It might be on your engine/gearbox another slave and not a concentric one. I should have said that concentric is mostly on diesel engines as I have experience from. Have never actually owned a petrol vag, so need to check for you then 🙂

Thankyou ,I have it booked at the garage on the weekend to see what's happening, hopefully it will last until than , is it worth doing the clutch at the same time ,mine is on 60000

Only If the gearbox has to come out to replace/inspect the slave then you could check clutch and flywheel for wear etc. I personally would change it if the box is being removed as the main cost would be gearbox removal and replacing etc. Hopefully its either air in system or the master cylinder. Check the brake fluid reservoir for levels. It could also be a leaking brake line/flexi hose and the brake fluid has dropped enough to affect clutch although I would assume a warning light would be on. Had someone on here recently that the level had dropped to almost empty but no warning lights. On mine its a float switch but on their later Octavia is a two pronged sensor in the brake reservoir. Theres for some reason wasn't puting on low fluid warning light.

I am partially sighted.

If you dont know what you are looking for then you only need to ask.

Your money your choice but why start the thread?

Just before mine failed completely I found that if I lifted pedal and pumped a bit the clutch came back. I had to lift it a few times and press down again till I got pressure back. It didn't last long after that happened but it got me home a couple of times.

Hopefully the garage will be able to sort it fairly easily.

If your still driving it check the brake/clutch fluid level regularly Also if you top it up remember to tell garage. Mines DOT4 on my 1.6tdi. I reckon you are the same grade of braake fluid.

Hope its an easy repair.
