Headlights not working! 2014 Fabia Mk2 105 TDI SE

Featured Replies

Hello

Last night both headlights stopped working. I changed the bulbs (twice) and tried the fuse too but to no avail. All the other lights work but the dipped main headlights are not working. Does anyone know what I can try please as I have an MOT on Thursday!

Is it the inner or the outer bulbs that don't work?

Thanks. AG Falco

Sorry should have said it is the H7 projector bulbs used for the main headlights.

Not my car but the headlights circled in red.

To be clear, these are the 55w bulbs that illuminate with the green "dip" telltale, and not the 55w or 60w that illuminate with the blue "main beam" one that have failed. The green telltale has also failed?

Light switch on the dash?

Thanks. AG Falco

We are talking about the bulbs that illuminate with the green dip telltale yes. The green telltale does work but the lights do not. They work in side light mode and full beam but not dipped.

The last time this happened to my friends mk2 fabia that just had the H7 bulbs fitted was the headlight relay located under the bonnet near the battery the relay was badly corrrded at the spades going into the holder a good clean up and a few squirts with WD40 and all was well again, If I remember it was relay 10B but can't be 100% sure on that one, I have heard that the dipped beam flap that covers the bulb can also cause this issue if it sticks but I would imagine the complete headlamp would need replacing to solve this issue, if the main beam lights up it could also be a bad earth to the headlamp unit not allowing the dipped flap to operate it's worth trying a wire from the metal of the headlight bulb to the earth on the car with the ing on and dipped beam selectedand see if the headligt lights up then

@klang180 @AGFalco @Murdockman - Ok, having the full description, the issue is basically dirty dip beam contacts on the dip switch, nothing to do with the headlight switch. You might be able to cure it with Servisal (sp) or similar contact cleaner, or it might need a new dip switch (probably special order from Czeckia).

Thanks to you both. I feel like a total dip switch myself but it turns out I was changing the wrong bulbs and not the dipped beams. This is obviously very stupid and embarrassing but at least it is now fixed.

Tell you what though, that bulb on the right is really obstructed by the fuel pump and I do not know if I am going to manage the change myself!

Thanks so much for this. Turns out I was just being a total numpty and changing the full beams every time rather than the dipped. I don't know why I didn't realise sooner but in my defence I had just driven seven hours so perhaps the lesson here is not to do these things when tired!
