It's neither a goodbye nor a hello!

Well, I'm back in the Skoda Fold - after a few years with a Toyota Corolla that replaced my Octavia VRS (still cannot fathom why I did that!) - I've replaced the Corolla (it was noisy and uncomfortable - but full of toys!) with a 2023 Superb L&K petrol! I live in Stratford Upon Avon but picked up the Superb in Bury St Edmonds! On the way over the Corolla achieved 62mpg on the way back the Superb achieved 54mpg - not too shabby! As I only do 5/6000 miles per year - economy was not the driving force but comfort (which the Superb has in spades) and quietness (much improvement)

The Superb has all the toys (including winter pack) but strange, no Traffic Sign Recognition -but as I use Waze and Sygic it's not a problem (even with the Octavia and Corolla TSR was not always perfect)

Aww, Stratford-upon-Avon is one of my fave places - we like coming up to the RSC 😎

My mind still boggles a bit at a petrol Superb doing 54mpg. My diesel Mk1 Superb's long term average was 31mpg.

It's the latter that makes my mind boggle!

I thought that Superbs were even more economical than Octavias due to their aerodynamics.

I did 13 full on laps of Croix en Ternois race circuit in my MK1 Octavia 110 TDi, its a very windy technical circuit, we were 4 up as I was instructing.

I reset the trip meter before going out and the overall fuel consumption was 19mpg, the lowest I think you could ever get out of one of them, so 31mpg seems very high indeed.

We saw the recent Hamlet - set on a boat! So how do you perform a graveyard scene on a boat? But it was still a great interpretation!

I admit I just put the adaptive cruise on 50/60 and just relaxed - I use my grandad slippers on the not so loud pedal!

ACC is one of my favourite options on the Golf 👍 It's helpful in stopping me speeding too. Wears the back brake pads out mind as it uses the electronic parking brake for slowing - small price to pay IMO.

Does it?! But I can feel the brake pedal move away from my foot when it’s on and wants to slow down so assumed it was using normal braking 🫤

So I've been told. It was as an explanation for why my back brake pads wore out long before the fronts, which they did, contrary to my expectations. This is on a 2018 Golf GTI, so might be different again on a 2021 Superb.

Gaz

It’s a fair point - mine were wearing thinner than the fronts. Always a possibility the pedal movement is driver reassurance

Blimey how hard did you drive your mkI Superb diesel? Mine seemed to always average about 50mpg unless just driven for a short local journey - it was only a poverty spec 1.9pd 100 though.

Overall mpg of my following mkII Superb 1.4tsi was circa 46mpg but was much more variable compared to the mkI 1.9 pd. Fully laden would affect the mpg more in the petrol.

I Suppose I've gone the opposite way from einrac changing from a Superb to a Swace (Corolla TS in drag) but I needed to downsize a bit as me and Mrs BJ are now retired and we don't need two cars but she found the Superb too big to drive locally etc. We contemplated an Octavia but the touch screen re basic function (eg heating) was a problem as Mrs BJ is a fully paid up member of the Luddite Society. I didn't get on with the Scala/Kamiq when I tried them - more to do with me as I'm 6ft4" and the lane assist stuff was bonkers.

It was a 2.5 V6, so it was obviously those extra two pots that were the thirsty ones!

I’ve always liked to regularly explore my cars potential, even now I’m also retired. Mrs Gaz suggested we come down to one car, so I bought another one instead 🤣 That’ll learn her (not!).

We've not quite achieved being a one car family yet as well - it appears my rust proofing and fettling of Mrs BJ's 2006 Fiat Panda has worked too well. It's worthless to sell but it's still in pretty good condition.
