Superb Mk2 Estate boot doesn't open fully

Featured Replies

I've 2012 Superb Mk2 Estate. When I use the remote control the boot opens but only a few cms.I then manually have to lift it the rest of the way.

I imagine that originally the boot would open slowly to the maximum point.

Anyone come across this issue and know how to solve it? Couldn't find anything online

thanks.

Does your wagon have electrically opening hatch - or standard gas struts?

If fitted with standard struts, hatch would need to be manually lifted to approx. 1/2 way before gas struts take over.

Could also be that the gas struts are on the way out. I've recently replaced mine, 5 minute job tops and the boot now goes up smoothly and quickly.

The tailgate isn't powered so it has to be lifted manually.

If it doesn't stay up then one or both of the gas struts has lost power.

They are easy to remove and check by just pushing closed.

They're pretty cheap on Ebay.

Thanks for the replies! An update...

I noticed that when parked on slope , the boot opens fully.

When level it only opens a few cms.

Any ideas? Video attached.

I'm confused - you say you have Mk2 estate - video clip appears to show notch back saloon.

Hmmm, I don't know my car types. It's a SKODA SUPERB 1.6TDI CR 105HP AMBIT GRNLNE which I think is a saloon as opposed to an estate as you pointed out Warrior.

Here is the other angle.

Most likely that the trunk gas struts have lost pressure.

Usually a pretty easy DIY job to fit replacement struts - make sure you get correct pressure replacements.

That's all my facelift 2014 twindoor ever did from when I bought it nearly new. I think that's normal - it's not a powered boot, the gas struts just help it stay put when raised.

During my decade of ownership I usually opened as a hatch after reading about wiring issues within the twin door assembly. I only really used as a boot on a restricted height ferry or multistory car park.
