2020 Fabia keeps locking itself!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 2020 Fabia, it's the first car I've had with central locking, but I keep having a problem with mine locking itself! It doesn't do it all the time, but it is starting to drive me mad! I load my car up for work in a morning, I press the button on the key fob and it opens the car, but sometimes it'll lock whilst I've got the boot open; sometimes it'll lock whilst the rear door is open, sometimes it locks before I've even walked to it, sometimes it's fine! I know this is better than it unlocking itself (thankfully it's not started doing that yet!), but it is inconvenient - there doesn't seem to be any pattern to it, either. I have to make sure the keys are on me and never left on the car seat or anything, just in case I lock myself out. I just wondered if anyone had any advice, please? My neighbour suggested it might be to do with some settings or something, however I'm not sure, as there's no pattern to it. I have changed the battery in the key fob and it hasn't made any difference. Neither has shouting at the car to stop flaming locking itself!

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

I'm not entirely certain how much help this is, but if you unlock the car and don't open a person door within a minute it relocks itself by design.

So, do you unlock the the car before you are next to it?

Has the key got a metal blade that you put in the steering lock to start the car?

Or is it a 'KESSY' type key?

What is set to open on the car when you push the unlock button once.

You can change this on the infotainment system.

Does it do anything different if you push the unlock button twice?

Thanks. AG Falco

Hi there, yes I generally unlock it just before I walk to it as my hands are full on a work day, it's only a 5m walk from the house. The key does have the metal blade for the ignition but I don't put that in until I'm sat in the driver's seat in case I get locked out! All the doors are set to open on unlock - I've not actually tried pressing the button twice.... but I will next time I go out to it! Thanks for that 😁

How long does it take you for the 5 M walk to car after pressing unlock button?

Are you are aware that doors will relock if no door is opened approx. 35 secs after unlocking?

Hi there, it's literally a 10 second walk; it has locked when I've not gone immediately, which I'm fine with as I know it's a safety feature, but it can lock itself while I've actually got the doors open!

Well that's not right, but at least you know that the relocking is a safety/security feature even if it's not working correctly.

One thing to do is to verify that all the door detection switches are operating correctly, open each door in turn and check that the indicator on the instrument panel responds accordingly.

Do you then put the key in a pocket?

Where it might be accidently being pushed?

I do usually, though often they're just dangling as I have a keyring I hold in my teeth (don't tell my dentist!!), I did wonder if it was the fob that may be getting worn and so a slight knock would press the button and activate it.

The driver's door is certainly the "master door", so I tend to open that quickly - and probably just close it again after I've unlocked the car (2015 VW Polo) if I don't want anything silly happening.

Too often in recent years I've parked to drop my wife off at shops, she grabs bags out of the boot, then I've forgotten to open>close the driver's door, so my wife gets back from shopping, she gets a bit annoyed when she finds the boot locked has re-locked itself.
