coolant type

Featured Replies

Hi,

Coolant is low, looks pink.

Local garage has orange coolant containing ethanediol.

Is this ok to put in? Not much choice of where to buy as Easter Sunday, but got a motorway drive later.

Thanks👍🏻

Does ethanediol not supercede these?

New stuff is G12evo, if your car has G13 now you can mix but coolant will turn brown

I'm afraid I don't have any more info than the original post. From what research one done today it seems like many of the oat ones have the same chemical under different names.

So I think it would be ok to add premixed ethanediol with what is already there, but would be grateful for confirmation before proceeding.

If its just a little low, why not top up with distilled water for now - a few hundred millilitres of water in 8 litres or so of coolant wont do any harm for now- then sort / fully flush in future ( before winter?) when you determine which coolant for your motor?

It's well below minimum, and I don't have distilled water!

The stuff with ethanediol is universal and premixed so should be fine for now I hope. Not put it in yet....

Get a couple of litres of de-ionised water from your local supermarket - normally used for steam irons, etc. Cheap as chips and a lot more reliable than the 'distilled' water your local Sh1tFix gets from the men's room tap!
