Newbie question. Replace radio for Carplay support What do I need

Featured Replies

I hope to forum users can help me.

My daughter as a Skoda Fabia 2016 MPI - very basic but a good car. I need to replace the basic stereo in it. It has basic bluetooth. I purchased what I think is the Bolero head unit from eBay and after reading the various posts here I now appreciate that I need a unit that fits in the glove box? As far as I am aware we don't have a unit in the glove box.

So my questions are.

What head unit do I need for Carplay

What unit do I need for the glove box

Is there any additional cables?

Part number would be great. I have upgraded my wife's VW Caravelle with head units etc, so I am happy doing this. However, various people have posted that the units need to be coded by Skoda before they will work in a car?

Any advice gratefully received.

Pls share VIN and part number of the unit you bought.

Thanks you for the quick reply, so the new head unit part number is 6V0 919 604 B

The car VIN is TMBFA6NJ8HZ079470

AS I said it is a basic 1.0 MPI with what appears to be a very basic radio. Ideally I'd liek to upgrade using this headset if possible, but fairly sure I need a glove box unit and the cable to go between them. This maybe a silly question, but do I need a new glove box for this to fit?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers Al

I do have VCDS and know hoe to use it to code parts tot a car. No idea if that will help in this case.

ETA: Apologies, I forgot you are new to the site, hi Al, and welcome.

IIRC (?) having a VCDS and knowing how to properly use it may help if you need to swap around head units (if that's what they're called) stick with pab567 as he specialises in this area and is very helpful to members as well as access to solutions.

If you have a VCDS and know how to use it you might think about adding yourself to the list of VCDS owners offering to help other Briskoda members. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/#comment-3091029

Good luck.

@nta16 Thanks for this and from what I have see on this forum I'm properly impressed with the help from the community. Thanks for the link to the VCDS group. I'll add myself on there.

All the best

@pab567

If there is any guidance that you could give I would be very grateful. I also appreciate that these sites are voluntary, so there is no rush. After working with VW Caravelles over the years, I am surprised that Skoda went down this route of separate units for a simple head unit.

Cheers Al.

@kalamath sorry I missed part of the previous correspondence

This FABIA has a SWING unit part number 6V0035869D - with DAB/DAB+ and Bluetooth. What you got (6V0919604B) is just a display. You also need glove box unit (infotainment reader), new USB port and harness to have it all connected. Glove box unit must be patched to enable new features.

I can deliver if required - if you are interested pls contact me on PM.
