Would you buy this car?

Featured Replies

Hello. I'm interested in buying a 2015 (65) Skoda Superb Estate DSG 2.0TDI 150ps. Mileage is 77,665. It's at a car supermarket and the dealer has given me a copy of the service record. A snippet is below.

The thing is, there's no record of the DSG fluid being changed, or the timing belt being changed. The dealer has said they have tried to get that info. without luck.

Is it foolish to buy the car without proof of those two things?

Even if the dealer did those jobs now, is it likely the gearbox is damaged if the fluid had not been changed?

Thanks for your help

Howard

I think gearbox oil should be replaced at 60.000 km and toothed belt at 120.000 km.

You stated 77,665 miles? This is ca. 125.000 km. So you'll need to change both after purchase.

I can't say about transmission damage. There could be some wear due to deteriorated oil.

If you don't notice rough shifting, it should be fine? (..wait for second opinion) :)

Thanks @univer Holding for second opinion.....👍

What is the asking price?

@tetley It's £12,000.

I wonder why the mileage is “unavailable”

If I were you, I’d go back and ask for an hour or two test drive on your own and say if there’s any reason you’re not happy you’ll repay fuel back £20 or so

Then if all good buy it then get a DSG oil & filter change at a Skoda dealership then live happy

Btw VAG changed timing belt interval to not be based on mileage and time instead which is 10 years, so it’s due one and about £1k from a Skoda dealership (obviously cheaper elsewhere) but for your bargaining power that should knock £1k off the asking price immediately

So if it’s £12500, and you like it get it for £11k, dsg oil and filter is £300 ish and timing belt another £1k

The miles/km seems to get quoted with no change in number.

DQ381 service interval is 80,000 miles from what I can see. But that’s the later one (7speed) which came in after your car. But most on here think that’s probably a bit long and prefer to do earlier anyway.

This one is probably the DQ250 (6speed)which I think was 40,000miles so may be overdue.

Not sure on belt as mine is chain so not on my radar. Good to see the brake fluid changes have been done though.

I always take ‘tried to get that info’ with a pinch of salt. Easier to not bother and deal with a customer who doesn’t ask. If it’s not on the service record (mine has all the maintenance stuff on even when done though specialist) there’s a good chance it hasn’t been done. There could have been a mixup with the “DSG service intervals are now 80,000 miles” being though as all of them rather than just the new ones but, either way, it’s done now.

It’s decent miles for the age so I’d keep an open mind. Take for a test drive and if you’re happy with that and the price then it’s not a showstopper just yet.

Wait for confirmation on the belt (and whether I’ve got anything wrong!)

@Danoid @travs - thanks very much for your replies. "Wait for confirmation on the belt (and whether I’ve got anything wrong!)"....will do....

I personally wouldn't buy it. I'm not a fan of car supermarkets. I prefer to buy at auction, or privately or from a specialist.

I personally would be willing to go for a higher mileage car that was a lot cheaper.

In March this year I bought a 152,000 mile 2016 Superb Greenline Executive Estate for £3800 from a private seller via Facebook Marketplace.

I'd find it really difficult to justify spending £12,000 on a 10 year old car.

A VWFS Service Plan was running 2021-2025 then another oddly from 2023-2027 which is nice.

Does not mean they Service to the Manufacturers recommendations, guidelines, schedules or specifications though.

Covered by a VWFS Service plan now.

As to a DQ381 there should be no confusion over one of those, they are not available in 2015 when the car was built so that was a known known in 2020 and when a service plan was put in place on 30/11/2021 @ over 50,000 miles.
