Heated windscreen - Can you see the wires?

Featured Replies

In theory my 2019 car has a heated windscreen, in previous cars with heated windscreens I've been able to see the wires but I can't see anything in this one. I have a nagging feeling it's had a new windscreen at some point (some of the trim on the right-hand side is out of place and the ticket holder isn't there).

I've definitely got the button for the heated windscreen but in the current climate no idea how to check it's really there.

Any suggestions?

It looks like more of a chameleon tint that a wire element version.

The Superb uses a different technology for the heated windscreen so you won't see any wires as there aren't any.

It uses an extremely thin metallic coated layer within the windscreen that from certain angles looks like the windscreen has a metallic finish to it.

Edit: the same question was asked here with a bit more information https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/454901-mkiii-superb-heated-windscreen/

Heated screens have come on leaps and bounds, my first heated screen (I think) had two wires,

and the first time I drove the car at night it showed delamination areas, not visible in daylight!

The screen was changed without a quibble.

Well, has it, hasn’t it, does it matter?

If it hasn’t unless you can get the seller to replace it then it is what it is.

The clip may just have broken off, it does happen.

There’s a very slight change in the engine note on our Superb when the heated screen is switched on due to the heavy load placed on the alternator………

Try switching it on late on a cool night, then feel if the screen changes temperature compared to side glass.

It’s not a Ford, so there are no visible elements. However, it’s also not as fast or effective either. My wife’s 2003 Focus clears its frosted screen in less than half the time it takes the superb to even begin to show signs it’s started.

Superb's with a heated windscreen have a distinct purple reflective haze/tint. the tint also gives it heat reflective properties.

can't miss it.

if it has a green-ish tinge, its non-heated.

Part No. for the heated windscreen is 3V0845011AE NVB

Thanks all, it's really hard to tell the tint but I'll have a go on a cool night and see what happens.

I had to replace my heated screen and I saw the bill for one, thank god the windscreen insurance covered it !

When the screen needs replacement due to chips or cracks, do they replace it like for like with a genuine part? I hope they don't try and cheap out with a non genuine screen

I can imagine the camera and sensors also cause issues!

I don’t have heated windscreen but my insurance uses Autoglass and I insisted on genuine screen

First two times they rocked up it was non genuine so I refused and third time it was genuine.

Was great because all it cost me was £10, as it had a chip which they fixed but then I noticed it had little cracks again a few weeks later, so they replaced the whole screen

I don’t have cameras either but I just said “people had issues with non genuine” as some folk on here had it replaced but glare and distortion was all wrong

I have seen posts on the forum where non-genuine replacement screens have been fitted - some with issues!

I'd think that would need to be discussed with insurance/fitting companies.

Check the small print of the policy.

Any windscreen camera will definitely require recalibration.

Which actually does work really well.

AFAIK on cars with ADAS, you really want to be using genuine glass.

Mine is scratched to hell - not quite sure how, but there we go. The replacement cost is eye watering, so I may just wait until that stone gets kicked up from my mates car...

FWIW looking at my windscreen on the driver's side there is a label saying FUYAO with a part number of DOT459M148AS1.

Could someone else with a similar spec car (MY2020 2.0TDI L&K) have a look and see what it says on a factory spec car?

Fairly certain that’s a non genuine part, you should see the Skoda logo stamp if it’s genuine

I thought as much, makes sense as the glass is immaculate which I wouldn't expect on a car with 67K miles and a load of stone chips on the bonnet.

My Superb is now on its third windscreen, the last two replacements were made by Pilkington and they are at least as good as the original windscreen - no problems whatsoever, both fitted by National Windscreens (with ADAS calibration facilities).

Not sure who Skoda use for their windscreens but it could well change to what is available at any given time, just like they fit different tyres to new cars depending what is available.

This is my 2022 Heated L&K Screen stamp........I think the 'A61' is the heated code......
