Skoda Kamiq stop/start fault and associated screen fault

Featured Replies

The start stop system in my daughter’s 2020 Kamiq keeps failing and then coming back on. When failed the attached screen has a pixel error over the front headlamp area. When the start stop is working again this disappears. Anyone ever experienced this and know how to solve. Or is it back to the Skoda garage with it (or just forget it).

Get a multi meter and check the battery voltage as at 5 years old the battery could be going and not holding the desired voltage for stop start

As for the screen see the dealer

I'm not sure that's a 'pixel error' - I believe it's the display indicating the possible source of the error, similar to the wheels being highlighted (except in red) when the TPMS flags pressure loss.

I did notice that the engine management light seemed to temporarily come on at the same time as the error.

EML lit will definitely inhibit auto stop-start. You will need to read any DTCs recorded.

The fault description for stop-start inhibition when battery SOC is low is usually 'Load too high'

I think that Warrior193 has it right. You are lucky that the battery has lasted this long - they are very life-limited in modern cars. Change the battery and there is every chance that your problems will disappear.

The EML lighting up could very likely be something other than a failing battery, any DTC recorded needs to be read to determine what might be triggering it.

Also suggest getting the battery tested.

The screen fault isn't a fault, it's showing where the fault is by highlighting the engine/gearbox shape.

A degradation in the battery could be the cause, you won't know until you get it checked.

When you say failed stop/start is it always activated, what happens if it's turned off does the fault still appear?

Thanks everyone. I’ll get her to try with the start/stop off and see if the other issues go. I’ll get the battery checked and replaced if needed. I have a code reader so will plug that into the OBD2 and check the codes when she next visits me. Changing the battery in a start/stop isn’t as straightforward as a simple battery change was years ago. Does the new one need coded in or similar?

It is always advisable to carry out an adaptation when the battery is replaced in these micro-hybrids - if for no other reason than to clear any recorded battery faults that may be limiting charge rate from alternator.

Adaptation is definitely required if new battery is different chemistry type (AGM/EFB) or is a different capacity (AHrs)

Is the screen shot also showing a problem with a rear light/brake light?

The new battery will need adaption to the vehicle. Failure to do this will result in problems. There are plenty of good YouTube videos showing how to do battery adaption. Depending on the OBD device you have you may be able to do it yourself.

I think that is just showing that the break pedal is being pressed.

If I remember correctly, it also shows the indicators flashing when on that screen - possibly other things too.

I guess that screen is a "live view" of the car.
