MORE POWER!!! (on the cheap)

Featured Replies

Can you have too much? ;)

Basically I'm after a cheap way to improve the power on my chipped 2.0 l fabia. It already has a K&N replacement filter in and a backbox.

I was think of getting an induction kit for her. Will I DEFINATLY see a gain in power from getting one?

I ask this because I have heard that often induction kits will actually reduce your cars power and a replacement filter in the standard air box is the "safe bet"

If I get one, can I fit it myself?

And are there any that you guys/gals know about that are good? Any recemendatins?

What are you experiences with induction kits on this engine?

ANY help would be GREAT,

Thanks a bunch,

Ben.

Out of interest who chipped it? 20bhp is an impressive gain on a 2.0l N/A engine! :D Not sure you'd see any real gains from a CAI - may be better just to go for an uprated panel filter and get the PD160 intake pipe (if it fits the 2.0l ) :D

AMD chipped it. :D

I have a K&N filter atm BUTthis intake pipe mod eh? SOUNDS SWEET! how much does it cost and whta sort of gain would I be looking at? 5 bhp surley?

Will I gain sweet sweet torque too? :D

Also it will it matter that I have had the engine remapped?

Have a look around for a turbo conversion.... Seeking (cheapish) power is always difficult from N/A Cars, have a look at some Cams.. even..

I'd have a butchers at this...

Neuspeed Supercharger kit :)

Trouble is its for LHD only :(

On the cheap? Well next real step is go for a full decat system straight through, but you'll need to get a cat in for MOT time.

Problem with the 2.0 n/a engine is the capacity for cheap power is very limited.

dang. Will it be worth me getting that p160 pipe?

Will the p160 pipe fit into my airbox without any modifcation?

Surly this if it can then it does not let any more air in as the gap will be the same size...????

Post up a pic of your airbox so we can see if its the same as the 1.9 tdi's. If it is then it'll fit. Costs around £30 from a seat dealer. As Jason said next option is an exhaust but will it give you gains dont know.

After this it cams, ported big valve heads.

Well if it's the same, it should be fine.

The front part looks identical to me at first glance.

perhaps you can work out if it's the same by doing this:

Follow the hose bit down from the front of the car to the airbox. You should end up at the airbox then. The pipe is secured that end using a philips screw.

Hopefully with the pics etc you can get an idea of scale and see if it's the same as the one on the forum :)

I'll look into into.

Thanks a lot for all your help mate. :)

The front part looks the same, but from the picture the connection to the airbox looks completely different. From what i can see, looks like a no no..

Lol one day maybe - How much are those beasts and what kinna gain would I see?

I think for £2000-£2500 there's turbo kits from Europe which will see you up to around 200bhp+ I think. Not 100% sure on details though, just remember it being talked about a while back.

A drilled airbox on the right side of the box (as far away from the engine, not to suck-in hot air) will also help, but will bring extra noise (now this can be nice or not). I have this in my 1.4 8v (AME 68PS) and it revs much quicker and it pulls a bit better. I think you can log with VAG-COM on the group 120 (Engine/Measuring Blocks) and you will get an estimate of the torque. It is known to be quite accurate. This can be done only on petrol engines. Don't know if you can do it on the 2.0, but mine works. Using that you can always decide on power increase. Also you can have a go with no air filter on a clean road just for a test (not to damage the engine), this would tell you the maximum improvement you can get from intake filter and the pipe setup at that moment.

Drill a hole in my airbox? Are you mad?

I think Mil has a 2.0 with various mods. I'm sure he'll be along soon to share his experience.

I dont understand :(

I dont understand :(

VAG-COM is diagnostic software to allow you to plug a laptop into your car, tweak configurable settings, clear/scan fault codes and gather run-time data of the car at work. Very neat :D
