VAG-COM is diagnostic software to allow you to plug a laptop into your car' date=' tweak configurable settings, clear/scan fault codes and gather run-time data of the car at work. Very neat :D

http://www.Ross-Tech.com for an official package, or check eBay for an OBD-II cable. Ross-Tech have VAG-COM 3.11-2 shareware edition for free download on their site too I think.

No risks to the engine (as long as you don't do anything stooopid!) and yes it's easy with a nice interface. There's also a lot of experts on here too :D

Drill your airbox? LOL, i think you'd have problems trying to explain it when coming to sell it!

It is a bit...

"why did you drill a hole in yur airbox"

"'Cos it lets hot air in innit"

Nice.

:rofl::rofl:

It's just something i would never think of doing.

I drilled the airbox on the pick up :)

Bwaaarrrp

Well, the facts are on the opposite, but maybe it was to hard to read for most of those who posted comments.

I will explain it again.

It does not suck-in hot air, as I explained before since the holes are near the wheel inner fender, where the air is cold. Not sure how hot it gets in the RS engine bay, since most of you on this forum have one, but on the 8v it does not get too hot. Anyway I have a bigger inlet to the front grill (bigger than the Cupra one, since it's made of 4" pipe and the drilled airbox. The holes are in the lower part of the box, and cannot be seen from the outside. The holes can be easily patched on this airbox whenever needed or a new one can be bought.

An aspirated engine can take so much advantage of more "natural" air flow (since this is a big restriction sometimes) unlike a turbo charged one. The inlet on the 8v is so restrictive (noise reasons) that it takes a lot of this engine's grunt. Now my engine has so much air as it needs, and that's cold air ... plenty of it! Paying 300-400eur for a custom remap on the 8v is silly, letting the engine breathe is ... well, you know my opinion.

don't fear the VAG-COM, it's a beautiful tool.

Fair enough....

I Still wont be doing it though:rofl:

300 to 400 Euro's is silly for a remap? Bhp per £ it's probably the best modification money can buy. Or maybe i miss-read.. Sorry if i did..

It's your choice. There isn't any cheaper and more effective (in the range of cheap mods) than that mod for your situation. Altough I do not see what would be so wrong in trying it. It's 100% safe for the car if you drill the holes before the filtering element. If you are not satisfied you can revert it will no costs (just put a plastic plate with rivets in front of those holes) or replace the lower part.

By the way, the airbox is drilled OEM, for draining water in the case of water suction. In extra you can bring a pipe to those holes to serve fresh air if you think that it will suck hot air (which is not the case).

After a drive, put your hand on the oposite to the engine side of your lower airbox half. Then test the engine side.

Another thing, the OEM intake pipe on the fabia sits over the cooling pipes that carry ... ahem ... hot water.

Certainly nothing wrong with it, and it does have its benefits im sure!

So drilling the air box is the way then?

BTW I fited the pd 160 pipe and it has made it a bit smoother.. and puncher - not THAT much faster though.

BUT I was keeping up with a 325 BMW today (Although he did start pulling awa from me over 120. :( ) But I was having him round/out the corners ;)

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Have you tried folding your rear seats flat, might give you more power than having your aircon off?

Given you car's method of power delivery and tiny ammount of power it has - how would turning off the TC help you corner faster?

From "confused" of Tamworth.

Well I just find that it corners better when I control the power now the computer.

I find I can take a corner faster with it off even if the tryers do "squeal" a bit.

Whats so funny:mad:? Folding them flat? How would that make a difference? Surly I'd have to take them out (loosing some weight) to see ANY performace benifit?
