AdBlue

Featured Replies

Hello!

I have a problem with my skoda superb 2016 2.0 diesel. Yesterday it appeared a new error with adblue ( adblue DEF. no engine start in 1000km). I refilled the adblue tank and drove for 20 minutes, after that it disappeared. Today it appeared again.

First time when it apeared ( yesterday ) it came with the check engine light. Today when it appeared the check engine did not appeared. What should I do now? First things to do? It s the first time when I have a problem with adblue.

How much did you put in? You can overfill these i believe

One of the driver menus (right cog on steering wheel) will show you how much is in there

Also turn your ignition on and don’t start the car for 1minute (manual says this)

After i refiled it showed 13000km range, which is normal for my car.

I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with adblue system itself, not just lack of fluid. It shouldn't say error, let alone give check engine light under normal conditions. Do you have any obd scanner to scan for errors? How much fluid did you refill, i.e. how much fluid was in tank when it showed you error?

I refiled like 4-5 liters and after that it was full. Don t have obd. From yesterday till today i made 100km. Today when i arived home I parked the car and the error appeared

What range does it currently shows? Did you overfill it, i.e. fill it to the brim?

When the error is on the range shows 1000km. But normaly it is 13000 when full. Tomorrow I will refill to see if I can. I fill it until the pistol fired three times.

Overfilling adblue system can cause all sorts of problems and it can cause adblue to misbehave. I personally on my mk3 fl superb, since i have digital cluster and i have reading now much fluid is missing, wait until it shows 10.5-11 liters missing, buy a jug of 10 liters and fill it so i can never overfill it. Since you don't have any diagnostic tool that could give us more insight into problem, I think you need to take it to workshop since check engine light and errors that keep returning clearly shows that something is not right with adblue system. Last thing you need is to get stranded by your own car if it refuses to start due to adblue error.

Yeah but it still showed error, where in normal conditions it should just say refill adblue. Besides, you filled it day before and it shows like its empty. My superb have about 13 liters tank and i think so do yours, so for it to show 1000km range or any message regarding fluid level with just 5 liters missing is not normal. What your car is trying to say is that something in your adblue system is broken (pump, sensor, injector, software error or whatever) and it gives you 1000 km range to get it fixed before car shuts itself completely. You have some problem with adblue system which cannot be further diagnosed without some ODB scanner which you don't have. Take it to shop.

Did you try the ignition only on for 1 minute then start car?

I will try

The error on your dashboard is not because of AdBlue Level.

It is a warning that there is another problem with the AdBlue.

The main thing that is monitored is the quality of the AdBlue, it has to have a certain urea concentration otherwise the system will think you have filled it with water or it is contaminated.

You will need to read the DTCs to understand what exact fault you are detecting.

Also note there is a minimum refill amount for AdBlue for the system to release the warning/protection.

If you look at the driving data in the instrument cluster it will tell you distance of AdBlue left plus the min & max refil levels.

You cannot overfill the AdBlue System.

I fill mine at the petrol station from a pump and I stop when it clicks 3 times.

Also, when refilling the AdBlue, it's normal that the warning is not cleared immediately.

It will take some time for the system to detect the new level so either waiting a minute or so at ignition on or driving for a few minutes is needed before the warning will go away.

This is normal.

@Gabbo Surely the AdBlue if not meeting the quality must be HOOKY stuff bought or given to you from a dodgy geezer.

Opened container obtained from somewhere or someone or another...

From a farm or haulage company and not a Trusted Retailer, or Filling Station delivery system.

I'm not sure of the shelf life of AdBlue once opened but when exposed to air it will dry leaving a crystallized residue.

Assuming that the sensor was working properly a quality error would indicate bad, contaminated or diluted AdBlue.

My point was more that the warning was not related to the level of AdBlue & a check of the DTC is necessary to further understand cause.

After these days i observed that the error appears random and dissapear random without to do something.

That sounds sensor related then to me.

Open the bonnet and look around the coolant reservoir, someone had it on here where it crystallised on a pipe due to a leak
