New Karoq Recruit

Featured Replies

Hi All, Just joined after having purchased a 73 plate Skoda Karoq a couple of weeks ago. There's loads of things I want to ask - but I am sure most of them will be available somewhere on the site! To be honest, I am getting rather frustrated with certain things. is it me?

Possibly, I haven't found anything frustrating with my wife's Karoq other than she gets to drive it more than me!

@MrTKaroq

UNlike some forums, the search at the top right seems to work well, so maybe start there first. But by their very nature forums are somewhat repetitive, so ask away if you wish.

Do a quick search, then ask away. If it has already been asked and discussed to death, one of the participants will reply with the link to the thread.
Most on here are friendly and were in the same position themselves in the past. .

Hmmm...I searched....and searched🤷‍♂️

Okay, My skoda Karoq satnav - voice command/search. It was set to United Kingdom already and prompt asked for address, starting with a City. Picked Birmingham. Reply was somewhere else in Germany beginning with 'B'. What???

Asked the satnav to search country (which is an option the prompt suggests), and said "United Kingdom" - in several different ways and accents. Nope! All I got was either "sorry" or "Pardon?"

Tried "England", "Great Britain", "Britain" and then "Germany". Nope.

Went back to United Kingdom (manually) "London". Nope.

It must be something blatantly obvious that I am missing, but for the life of me.......................😤

@MrTKaroq

Not sure what process you're using but on the few times I've used it, I've simply said "Navigate to <destination>" & it's just worked. That's where destination is either a stored location or a postcode.

It is possible that a google search will get better results than dragging around the site.

You will get a better response If you start a topic specific thread, in the appropriate part of the forum.

Mine is also set up for UK but occasionally thinks it is in the UK, Germany!!!

It doesn't seem to affect the navigation, so I ignored it.

I usually look at the route on Google on a computer with a nice big 24" screen and then set up the route on the Škoda App on my phone before going to the car and then "send to car" which is a LOT easier than trying to do it in the car or by voice command. However, I usually know where I am going before I go.

If you need to input addresses on the fly whilst driving, you are going to have to practice with the voice system so you are, and it comes to a system that works for you.

Yes, just forget about the built-in Nav and use Google Maps or Waze via Android auto or Carplay

I find the built-in maps are great. I wouldn't use anything else.
Though in my 2023 SE L the maps are Google. With all the up-to-the-minute traffic overlays. Speed limit signs etc.

Thanks for the tips folks, I'll take all on board and hopefully get things sorted. I must admit, I never thought of saying "Navigate to....".

Will also remember to start a specific topic thread, rather than my drivelling on different subjects.

I must admit, i still have an Atlas as a back up. My theory being, a satnav will tell you where you are going and where you are - but where in relation to the rest of the country?

(Mostly when I have been out in the wilds of Exmoor or such places).

I have to use Waze as my internal Sat Nav stopped receiving live updates.

The voice system is pretty much useless on all cars. I still remember a Top Gear Review for a second hand Mercedes that had voice activation systems:

Clarkson: Right, let's see if it still works, "Play Radio 2!"

Car: "Phoning Dentist"

Clarkson: Yupe. As good as always.

You do realize that was fake?

That may be so but Im sure we have all had many similar voice activation failures??

It was so, not "maybe". However, as you say, there are still a lot of voice activation errors.

A Top Gear expert? Apologies for my mistake. I stopped watching that drivel years ago.

I don't watch Top Gear either. Though, I believe, it was scripted and not as spontaneous as people think.

I have expertise is in electronics and software, so I know about voice activation and automotive systems.

My thought is modern cars in general are increasingly frustrating.

Certainly have.

The system in my latest Karoq is reasonably accurate, although seems limited in its ability to alter car settings - it can't control the HVAC system whereas this was possible in a Lexus GS300 I owned many years ago!

In most scenarios I typically bypass the Skoda system (using the mic button on the steering wheel) and ask Google.
