"Fuel bowl" - You what now?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I just got my 2019 petrol vRS back from the dealer. They sent me a report saying the "fuel bowl is very dirty and the drain hose may be blocked" and asked if I wanted it cleaned for £25. I said yes and got the car back. It's like a completely different car. I was never as happy with this car as my original Mk II as it just seemed to be more boring in the engine department. That is no longer the case.

The only thing I know of that's usually called a "fuel bowl" in a petrol engine is on a carb engine so, I don't have one of those. Does anyone know what they likely did to the engine? I'm intrigued now.

Thanks,

Paul

The bit just outside the fuel cap, with a water drain hole?

It would be remarkable if cleaning that area and unblocking that drain helped with engine performance.

What was the car in for?

New console bushes and a new rear wiper motor

Ah, I see. Working rear wiper >= + 100bhp.

It's OK. It's not completely working. The washer is dead and I need to find out how to get in there in case it's ****ing screenwash inside the tailgate

Right, irony didn't work then.

Can be just the nozzle blocked, and they generally pull out fairly easily to test flow without.

I must have a pin to poke it out somewhere

Not usually productive, because the nozzle tends to have a 90 degree bend near the outlet, and you'd also be pushing any debris back in, not out.

Soaked mine in vinegar for a few days, blew some air through it and it worked.

Only thing I can think of for a "fuel bowl" is the container/canister that the fuel filter goes into in the engine ?

Maybe after taking out the filter they cleaned out the insides of the canister and brushed out the fuel lines going into it, Just a wild guess though :)

No such arrangement on a petrol engine.

AFAIK, TSI fuel filter is integral with the fuel pump, mounted on the tank - no 'fuel bowl'

No decisive answer yet, can you ask the dealer?
