Screen Washer problem

Featured Replies

The cars just come back from having a new mechatronic box fitted under warranty.

The screen washer isn't functioning.

At first I thought the garage had maybe forgotten to fill the tank, but it's brimful. With engine off and ignition on there is no sound from the screenwash pump. So it just isn't operating

I've looked up the fuse and it is a shared one 'Luggage compartment lock, rear door lock, tank flap lock, headlight cleaning system, front and rear windscreen washer system' Obviously the headlight cleaning isn't working either as that's fed by the same pump but all the lock items are working, so that suggests the fuse is fine.

That leaves disconnection somewhere (all looks good from above), busted pump, or would it have been affected by the reprogramming to install the mechatronic box?

Any thoughts?

Hi Andy,

The most logical thought would be they have disconnected the pump when they have removed the gearbox and not plugged it back in.

Hi Lee, that's what I thought too. I've had a look around the washer bottle but I can't see anything loose. Mind it's all a bit tight and difficult to see down there.

Remove the NS wheel arch liner, check the pump is plugged in, if it is, the pump may be stuck.....make sure the ignition is off.

Then turn on the ignition, have someone else get ready to activate the washers.....go and hit the smaller pump with a screwdriver/hammer handle and whilst hitting it get your helper to try the washers.

if it doesn't work after a couple of go's you will need to cycle the ignition as the system turns off the circuit as it detects the excessive current being drawn.

Thanks I'll give that a try.

It's not the most generous space to work in, but it's most likely been disconnected for the box to be dropped. I think it's very unlikely to have gone at the same time!

The car has to go back to the dealership to have its second key programmed, so if I don't get time to fiddle about they should sort it at the same time.
