Air Conditioning Service

Featured Replies

I have had a Kamiq from new and it will reach 3 years next month. At time of purchase I took out a 4 year service and maintenance agreement, this includes absolutely everything apart from oil between services. It states an air conditioning service is included but only one within the 4 years. Can I request that is done to keep it tip top or is it only available if deficient?

How many miles has the car done? Is it not tip top now and cooling well?

Ask them.

If you want it now you are only wanting 1 and you want it at 3 years. Why should their computer say no?

it is Dealerships or some that say it is due at 2 year.

What do you mean everything covered, is it on Variable or Fixed services,

oil changed each year / 9,400 miles. Or is it 18,000-20,000 miles / 24 months.

Are they doing the brake fluid this year or did they do it last years, and the pollen filter then?

Are they changing the spark plugs next year?

It has done just over 25K.

It is an all inclusive service/maintenance plan including roadside recovery for 4 years. It is fixed, not variable. Brake fluid and pollen filter at 2 and 4 years. Spark plugs at 4 years.

As regards the AC, it is probably at 90% of what it first was.

Did you mean no free oil top up,s between services?

Such a low mileage in 3 years, do you have the AC on all the time?

It should be fine.

Is the car to be a keeper?

yes, no free oil top between services. Yes retirement car, so a keeper. As regards AC, my thinking is the cost of an AC service has been factored into my 48 monthly payments for the service/maintenance plan. That being the case, am I missing a trick by not having one?

You said that an AC service was included, if in the T&C,s and only 1 then that is what you are entitled to.

Why not now rather than in 12 months.

As in writing.

@3 years in within 4, or am i missing something.

Take it in and ask them to do it, check it and recharge/top up. Most cars will probably need at least a top up of the air con system at that age.

Can I ask how much the package was?

We had it on a SEAT many years, and it included tyres, and it was £15/mth for 3yrs/30K miles. But I asked when we got the Kamiq and the dealer seemed baffled by what I was asking for. I didn't push it as they did the 2yr service plan free.

Is get the AC done. Modern systems are so poor. In our place we recharge the system and clean the evaporator.

Nothing odd about this sort of service plan. They can be bought at the time of new car purchased or (at least back a while) taken out in the first months after purchase.

I'd ask them to check the A/C and re-gas as required.

£25.48 per month for 48 months based on 10K per year and 1.5 TSI auto. This is for service and maintenance excluding tyres.

The only way nowadays that an AC car system is serviced is to fully recover the fridge gas charge and weigh it, apply a vacuum to the system to remove any accumulated moisture, and recharge the system with the correct weight of fridge gas.

Out of interest they might tell you what the recovered weight was as compared with the newly charged weight - though you might not be interested in knowing that, my older daughter's 2019 Leon Cupra ended up with a "crap" AC system during the past hot weather, I told her to get it serviced and that sorted it out, perhaps she will buy a bio bomb to sanitise the evaporator now as well.

So, that car had lost too much of its fridge gas over a period of 6 years, if your one is still okay, maybe play the system and get its AC serviced as an individual task - if that is allowed within your service plan, but don't do this until next early summer as that should give you a longer period before you will need to pay to get it recharged/serviced the next time.

If you ask them to do an a/c service, tell them you would like the before and after gas readings, and if they ask why say so you can estimate when next one will be due.

It will mean doing a proper service and regas (rather than quick top up or just checking pressure)

Maybe worth noting that with modern AC systems you have to fully empty and refill them AFAIK. Essential to have them under vac for a period to remove all the potential water. AFAIK this has been true since there was a mandated change to the refrigerant some years back.

Correct, the action of removing the entire fridge gas charge - and the recovery machine will note the recovered weight, is to be able to comply with the requirement to never load fridge gases into a leaking system as that just leads to a small extra bit of global warming.

The by product or bonus in doing that is that any accumulated moisture is also removed.

Loading back in the system design weight of fridge gas is essential when using these "dumbed down" fridge gas handling machines, as these AC systems are designed with a "critical" weight of fridge gas - which also makes using these "dumbed down" machines kind of fool proof to a basic operator who has had the training and so is certified to handle fridge gases, without having a lot of fridge gas system knowledge.
