New 2025 Octavia VRS owner... with a few questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I took delivery of my Octavia VRS (Race blue) in April, and it took me a while to get used to it. My previous car was an Alfa Giulia, and for all its quirks, it was lovely, but after 6 years & 100K miles it was time to go.

Leasing this car was tough, particularly due to my own badge snobbery issue, and I didn't like it when I first had it, as the Alfa was a tough act to follow.

The lane assist and speed warning still annoy my to this day, and the drive mode button on the passenger side is most annoying.

The hard ride was also difficult to get used, but I had a Golf GT & GTD before so it was familiar feel.

Now I've had it 6 months I really appreciate the things it does well. Love the practicality & understated design of it, and the performance.

I'm now ready to tinker with a few of the settings. I have an OD11 module, but I'm struggling to use it.

I really want to turn off Lane assist & speed warning or have them remain at last setting. Can anyone help me?

Also, is it possible to set the drive mode to default at last user setting?

A 'nice to have' would be to apply the park brake automatically when engaging 'park'. I miss that from my Alfa.

Any Help much appreciated.

Rob (UK)

The facelift Octavia has SFD2 implemented, which means that you will not be able to code anything related to the Lane Assist - since the corresponding module is locked. However, I was was able to set Speed Warning to Off (or Last Setting) using the OBD11 one-click-app. Just follow the procedure indicated in the description of the App (open bonnet, ignition on...).
Concerning the EPB auto-engage, AFAIK if you have the Auto-Hold activated when you stop the car, the EPB will be automatically applied. (this is actually one of the reasons I do not use the auto-hold 😁)

Admittedly, my vRS is a 2016 model but I can turn off Lane Assist and Speed Warning in the infotainment system. Have you looked there?

The electronics and software in a 2016 Mk3 are completely different to any model year Mk4.

Also the attitude of VAG and the regulations regarding ADAS systems have changed a lot since 2016 meaning that many systems cannot be disabled or have their settings changed without some "trickery".

IMG_5958.jpegAuto hold on will apply the parking brake automatically. I find the ride great with dynamic chassis control. You might find it easier to put the drive modes permanently up on the screen so any mode is just a single touch away. I regularly use comfort, normal and sport rather than just stay in one mode.

I’ve had Audis and BMWs before and love the Skoda but I personally enjoy being written off by brand snobs. I couldn’t care less and prefer to drive an under the radar vehicle

Assume you know you can turn off lane assist & speed warning via steering wheel? I do this every time I start the car, and thankfully it’s easy to do and not buried deep in the infotainment.

Worth mentioning in case he doesn’t know. I do it without even thinking or looking although here in NZ there is no speed warning just the lane keeping assist

Yes, I do this too 😁. its not the most annoying thing in the world to do but I wish it would remember last setting.

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned, and I assume it's the same for the 4.5 - on my Mk4 vRS if you turn the ignition off with your foot on the brake it automatically puts it into Park and applies the handbrake (without Auto Hold on).

Never knew that. I’ll give it a go. Normally I always put the transmission in park before turning off the engine so never would have come across it

Yep, works on the 4.5 too. Thanks for the tip.

Another thing you may not know, and again I assume the 4.5 is the same - you don't actually need to manually release the EPB, if you put the car in gear and drive off (reverse or forwards) it releases automatically.

I did know that one

I have set lane assist to remember last setting the app was 50 credits so I did it with obdeleven vag module A5 adaptation is was easy from what I have found only 2 modules are SFD2 Central Electrics and Gateway all the rest are SFD and unlockable.

Good stuff. There's so many things to learn with these cars coming from a relatively analogue vehicle, it took me a good few months to get my head around most of it, but I'm sure there's still things I haven't found!

We almost need a 'tips and tricks' section for new owners!

Yes that would be good i can't wait for the day I can deactivate auto lock it drives me mental.

Random one I discovered over the weekend - With the interior light on, if you touch and hold your finger on the plastic that the bulb is housed in, the light dims to a lower brightness.

I think you just need to hold your finger near it from memory

That may have changed from the Mk4 then, from my owners manual:

Operation of the lighting

Turn the front and rear lights on/off

Deactivation of automatic activation

( lights up yellow when deactivated)

The individual lights can be switched on/off by

touching the corresponding light.

The brightness level of the lighting can be adjusted

by holding a finger on the light. The set brightness

level is not saved once the lighting is switched off.

If a door remains open and the ignition is switched

off, the lights will turn off automatically after 10

minutes.

@hirobmay did you manage to get ISA to keep your setting?

What you may want to do with OBD11, is go to control Unit A5 Driver Assistance. Go to Long coding, then all the way down: "Regulation"

Set it to No_Regulation.

This will do the trick for ISA, and keep whatever was your last setting. Mine is peacefully quiet since nearly a year now )

just turn the ignition off and the gearbox will go to Park and parking brake will come on automatically.
