Driver information screen is permanently black

Featured Replies

Hi, the driver information screen (the rectangular screen between the speedometer and the rev counter) on my 2018 combi has suddenly stopped displaying information; it's completely black.
Has anyone else experienced this? Found the solution?

It happened to me once, just turning off and on the car restored it. Happened about 3 years ago.

If yours stays off, I would suggest checking for a fuse

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I haven't used the car since Saturday, but I went out in it this morning et voila! it's back working again. Weird!
Thanks again :-)

It's not unknown for the software in some of the many modules not to wake up properly!

I would keep a close eye on it. Your speedometer is also your immobilizer master.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by that. Could you explain please? Thanks

If the control unit in the speedometer is completely defective, your vehicle will no longer start

Ah, OK. Thank you

My screen isn't black but doesn't show any information.

There's a message "No assistance menus available". I've been all through the manual to see whether it's possible to get the info back, but no luck.

I'm presuming an electrical fault, but any info about possible cause would be welcome.

Diagnose Tool?

I assume you are talking about the Maxidot system in the dashboard. Black/white version or colour version? I've only ever seen one fail though. Getting the dash out is easy; getting the Maxidot out is less nice but achievable. Suggest taking it to a auto electrician or dashboard rebuild specialist.
