2018 Citigo - what fits into this adjustable dash mounted cradle?

Featured Replies

My daughter has just bought her first a car - a 2018 model UK registered 5 door Citigo.

It was supplied with some kind of dash mounted adjustable cradle that looks factory fitted. The dealer that sold us the car advised that this was for a SatNav unit but the device wasn't included in the sale.

Can somebody please advise as to what this cradle is for and details of the device that fits into it............

Thanks for this.
Is there an App she needs to use with her phone?

To use the cradle? I don’t think it has a specific interface for adjusting. 😉 (joking)

It depends on what infotainment system is in the car. Assuming it’s compatible Android auto or apple car play to allow connectivity.

Citigo's used to have a different fitting as satnav was a factory option. I forget the original make but latterly was a Garmin unit (my son has one in his Citigo).

Around 2016 the Citigo had a facelift and the satnav option was dropped and this fitting was supplied. It holds your mobile and they then provided a satnav option as an app "Move and Fun".

I tried to use this in my Citigo but it was poorly supported and riddled with gremlins (there are SEAT and VW versions available) so I ditched it. The plus point of the new fitting is the USB socket behind it which you can use to charge your phone.

Thank you!
This explains why I could only see early model (pre 2016) Garmin devices but no obvious way of mechanically connecting them to a 2018 vehicle cradle!
From digging around in Up! forums and browsing in the Android app store, I see that the Skoda "Move & Fun" app has been discontinued, but the VW version is still available.

Would you know if this VW app will work with the Citigo? Is it worth investing any time into getting it to work or should we just focus our attention on iOS CarPlay and Android Auto?

Try the iOS/android options first. They get well resourced for development and bug fixing

I've had mixed success!

My daughter is an Apple phone user.

The car has the "Swing" radio with the colour screen.
We can connect her iOS phone to the radio via Bluetooth and she can listen to Spotify via Bluetooth and get navigation prompts from Google Maps
However, when we plug the USB lead in to charge/power her phone, the Swing radio advises that the Bluetooth connection is going to be lost and all sound is lost.

What are we doing wrong?

None of this happens with my Android phone!

Both the SEAT and VW versions work with the Citigo. I tried them both to see if they were any better than Move and Fun but they weren't. I just used Google maps for satnav now as it is up to date and free.

Have you tried using a short headphone jack ( if the Iphone has one ) to plug in the the jack plug in the front of the Swing Radio?

You want a male to male 3.5 mm one like this?

Charge the Iphone from the 12 volt power outlet by the gearlever?

No.

You can get Non-data transfer USB cables. The sort you get with rechargeable headlights in the middle aisle, where the item has a USB charger port but no need of data connections.

No

that’s pretty clear cut 🤣

Any reason why? I’m just curious for myself.

Thanks for all your help.
I've no idea what has changed, but using the same leads and the same Apple phone as earlier on in the week and everything is working now!
I can connect the phone using the USB lead and it charges.
When plugged in to the USB, Google maps prompts are broadcast over the car radio speakers, and Spotify works in a similar way.

When disconnecting the lead, sound is lost confirming that the USB is performing the sound connection (as you would expect).

Switching to the Bluetooth connection from the media interface on teh radio then reconnects the phone via Bluetooth

The VW Up! Maps&More app works with the facelift Citigo. The app lets you see fuel consumption (instant and average MPG), fuel range, economy score etc. The media part of the app works well for playing music from iTunes etc. The Navigation part is not as good as Waze, except it pipes "turn next left" type directions through the audio even if you're listening to radio. If you use Waze you either have to use your phone speaker, or have bluetooth audio playing (i.e. not radio)
