New Owner Questions - Superb Sportline Plus Estate TSI 4x4

Featured Replies

Hi all, first post here.

I collected this 22k mile Feb 19 registered 2.0 TSI 4x4 earlier in the week, and I'm really chuffed with it. I'm now finding out that there's loads of coding potential with these cars and trying to get my head around that whole thing 😲I had a 66 plate Touraeg earlier this year that I did some basic stuff with via OBDeleven (which I gave away with the car, FFS) but nothing on the level of some of the stuff I've seen here.

Anyway, a couple of questions to kick off please. I've tried searching and maybe my skills are lacking, but I couldn't find an answer.

  • Virtual dash - why does this reset every time the car is switched off? I want one of the option screens as the default but it always resets to the OG layout.

  • Blind spot warning - this also keeps turning itself off and I can't figure out why...?

I've tried ensuring I'm in "my" profile but it seems to make no difference to these options being saved or not.

Cheers.

It's infuriating and I can't figure out the pattern to it.

Often it's when I put it in reverse, it will drop the Blind Spot Assist. Sometimes it seems to be mid-drive - I'll go back to the menu and the box for Blind Spot will be un-checked. I never have a fault with the Blind Spot system, it just un-checks itself. When I turn it back on, it works fine.

Maddening.

Apparently if you turn off Personalisation, the car will remember the Virtual Cockpit view that you last used next time you come back to the car. No idea why it won't let you have your profile selected and still save cockpit view. Bizarre.

The car is still turning off Blind Spot Assist every time reverse is selected. I could sort of understand it if it was to prevent the car "seeing" other vehicles when, say, manoeuvring in a car park. Fine. But then at least turn it back on above 3mph or something!?

I just don't understand it.

By options do you mean the small sections that appear on the left/right, eg MPG etc. If so you need to choose your desired configuration via the head unit display and save it as 1 of the 3 presets. You can then change the presets via the steering wheel controls.

Sorry Dave, no, what I mean is when you use the VIEW button on the steering wheel and scroll through the virtual dash layouts.

I can now get that to stay as last selected, but only when Personalisation is de-selected.

The one that's infuriating me every time it's Blind Spot Assist turning itself off every time reverse is engaged. It's driving me nuts. No amount of setting/saving the memory function on the seat, adjusting the reverse mirror and pressing set/save, turning it back on whilst IN reverse and saving, is keeping the damn thing on at all times.

I don't have a fault with it in the Vehicle Info screen, it just deactivates.

That's odd, it should remember it. The blind spot issue isn't normal either, sounds like it need to be checked by a dealer/specialist.

It does seem that way.

Actually I did notice this afternoon that when reverse is engaged, a message does appear on the dash for a split second which says something like "Blind Spot system unavailable" or something. But it disappears as quickly as it arrives.

Ah, same as this then. I read it earlier but didn't think it was the same issue as yours

Really appreciate you trying to help Dave, thank you.

That's actually one of the many, many threads I've read today about this.

Seems I need to get the car checked for/cleared of fault codes. It doesn't (currently) have a tow bar fitted. Maybe it used to? Or are they the ones that fold away in these cars and I've just not seen it?

The car is under warranty, I bought it from Fords of Winsford. However they are 2.5 hours away and I don't know if they'll allow me to visit the Skoda dealer up the road for fault finding.

Mine may be slightly different to your as I have a 2023MY, but on mine I'm pretty sure the virtual dash 'default' is set on the main screen, by which ever screen you want from the selection available (can't remember from memory but worth checking).

Also is the blind spot turned on in the main screen options (again mine may be different).

However, from what you say it is activated upon ignition on, but turns off when reverse is selected, do you or did it ever have a towbar fitted? (may not be relevant but just a thought).

I definitely need to have a proper play with it, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious regarding the dash.

Yep, Blind Spot is turned on in the main Driver Assistance menu (or whatever it's called), that's exactly where I'm doing every time.

I've only had the car 7 days. It doesn't have a towbar fitted now (unless it's retractable and tucked under the bumper). I'm going to poke my head under tomorrow.

Thanks for your suggestions by the way.

Just Googled and a similar thing here with a Kodiaq, I haven't read it right through but may be worth a 5 minute read https://www.kodiaqforums.co.uk/threads/rear-traffic-alert-and-blind-spot-monitoring-switching-off.1367/

Yeah that's the same as above, thanks though.

I've tried everything I can think of regarding the Virtual Cockpit selection, I've tried to explain here if anyone's even remotely curious 😆

When you save by holding down the preset on the screen you should get a 'ding' sound from the speakers.

I use the same VC screen as what you want with the big dial in the middle but mine isn't as fancy as yours. Do you know if yours came from the factory with VC? I'm wondering if someone has fitted it after and not coded it correctly. It looks like some coding has been done to make it looks like that, unless that's standard on the 280.

Also, I have no personalisation option in my menu?!

Just to eliminate a screen fault, try setting a preset on your radio by holding down on the screen

I'll have to have a little look later, I'm just assembling my little boy's trampoline 😆

As far as I know it's a standard VC... Maybe as you say, it's because it's a 280 or a Sportline Plus?

Just had a tinker with VCDS and you can change the display theme from standard in 17 - Adaptions. This must be the facelift version, I prefer the old one 🤣

I guess this may show that the last owner of your car has done some VCDS changes. Whilst trying to find out how to do the above I found this post which suggests the behaviour you have is normal, or at least a known issue.

I did actually see that comment on my searching for this glitch. Definitely seems I'm not alone.

My car isn't actually a facelift. Although I thought the pre facelift had the 6 speed DSG... Mine has the 7 speed. And if I have the facelift VC, maybe I have an in-between? I've known over the years for some cars to get crossover bits between facelifts. Not sure if this is the case here.

I certainly don't have facelift bumpers, badges etc.

Sorry, forgot you mentioned this.

I know this works as I did it in the way home from collecting the car last week.

Also, when I press and hold to "save" the Views, it does actually save the options in either side window, so I know the screen functions correctly.

No idea what's causing the Personalisation glitch though. It's not a huge issue as my wife doesn't drive the car, so I can keep Personalisation off and just set things as I want and leave them. It's just an odd trait.

You could always try a software update, it's fairly straight-forward. Sometimes you need a couple of updates to get to the latest version but given that yours it at the very end of the pre-facelift models I would think there would be just 1

I'll see if FoW will pay for a software update. I'll give them a call tomorrow and tell them I'm having issues.

Again, really appreciate your help Dave 👍👍

In case anyone in future has this issue, it seems, at the moment, to have been fully resolved.

The supplying dealer paid for the car to go to Skoda for investigation, fault clearing and software updates etc. Since i collected it this morning and have driven it around, it all seems to be sorted 🤞
