Knocking noise/rattle from DCC - Sportline 2.0 Petrol

Featured Replies

Hi. Had the car since May 25. Always been a knocking sound like metal on metal from the front suspension when driving over bumps in the road. It sounds a bit like an old worn shock absorber on a car from the past.

The dealer identified and acknowledged the unusual sound but were unable to identify the cause. I contacted Skoda UK customer services who were generally pretty unhelpful. The did supply the dealer with a copy of a page from an internal powerpoint presentation which revealed that a knocking noise from DCC on Kodiaqs was a "characteristic". They also said I should ignore any similar issues (of which there appear to be many) with other VAG models. with DCC. At that point, the dealer said "nothing can do".

Other than this, the car is great and drives well, but this does spoil our pleasure in driving it. Before I take up the issue again with the dealer I was wondering if anyone else had similar problems and a more positive response from their dealer or Skoda UK

You had this issue since it first came to you? If this is the case, why you left so much time to pass? If I understood correctly, and the issue is not quite recent.....

DCC shocks are pretty well known for being rubbish and leaking. One of mine started leaking at 29k miles/4 years.

If so, one thing to do is replace with something like Bilstein B4 Damptronic which are an OE replacement but with a much better reputation.

Having said that, presumably all other major suspension components have been checked and ruled out? Bushes are all good? What’s the age and mileage of the car?

This is exactly what I wanted to know....is the issue something new, or it has been there since the very beginning?...if it is recent, at what mileage?

Supposing everything goes fine, at what mileage/age DCC absorbers need replacing?

The car was brand new in May. It is still under warranty. The noise was there from new. The dealer acknowledged it when it was reported to them, they checked all suspension and steering components and anti-roll bars, but were de-railed by the intervention from SKoda UK Customer Services. I'm about to go back to the dealer. I am trying to find out if anyone else has had a similar problem. I've only done 7,000 miles.

The car was brand new. As I stated above, the dealer has had it back, acknowledged the problem but were prevented from going further by Skoda UK. I am about to take it back again , would like to see if anyone else had similar issues with DCC.

It s sounds a bit strange, as this problem, followed many of 2024 Kodiaq s, but it was fixed , as the problem was the KYB absorbers that affected several models of the group, according to vag announcement.....I don't know what to say...I have them in my new Kodiaq - diesel 4x4 -, since 1/8/2025....10.000 Kms so far, knock on wood, no issues ....

Tbh I’d return it. You don’t know whether it’s an annoyance or something more fundamental. You don’t know whether this noise will lead to something else but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you do or don’t know. You didn’t pay money that makes a funny sound, you don’t want a car that does.

Looks like Skoda UK are trying to get in front of it or tick down the clock.

Pretty sure I’d read KYB did VW and Audi, Monroe did Seat and Skoda.

Maybe, I am not sure, just read VW official announcement, nothing official from Skoda....but for sure I would never accept an excuse like "it s a feature of all Kodiaqs", because 1) it was written nowhere when we ordered our cars, 2) it s not in all Kodiaqs with DCC and 3) like you said, we didn't pay for such a noise, which may lead to something worse...

Thanks for your replies. It will be going back again shortly. Skoda explicitly stated in their correspondence to ignore everything else VAG as it did not apply to them. I drove a Superb with DCC and had no noise. At that time the dealer had no other like models in to drive to compare, but Skoda gave them a get out of jail card. I still believe it is a manufacturing fault, I can't believe that an expensive 2025 car would have clanging shocks built in as a feature.

FYI,

I have a November 24 Kodiaq (2lt diesel 10K on the clock) with standard suspension this thing also has clunking noise from the front N/S wheel I have checked all the bushes and linkages, all appear to be ok no sign of wear or deterioration nor is the shock absorber leaking that i can see. The dealer also have agreed there is a noise there and say "it's a characteristic of the car". As a professionally qualified engineer i do not believe this clap trap. From my days a student one of the lecturers in metallurgy made a statement which has stuck in memory for the last 48 years "noise mean's wear" I suspect that Skoda are using poor quality shocks and the piston is bottoming out. Come the spring i intend to replace the front shocks with Bilstein B6 units as believe this will remedy the situation. I know it will cost me a couple of hundred pounds but at least it will be noise free.

Good luck in your quest for silence

Thanks for that BeeTee. I can't be persuaded that a metal clunking sound is normal. If it was my old Cortina making the same it would be a new shock for sure. I don't think there should be metal on metal. I'm convinced it is either faulty or incorrectly installed. I don't understand why Skoda are so averse to investigating.

Good luck with your replacements, it's not an option that is open to me really.

A further info, if it can help, is that, having watched the German Kodiaq forum for a long time, nobody has reported there, a similar issue with DCC, since the very beginning...

I've had three 2.0 litre diesel Kodiaqs all with DCC, 20, 22 and 25 plate. My current car is the sportline model. I have never experienced the reported issue in any of the cars.

Thanks. Seems it's not common then!

Thanks for that info. I don't recall having experienced it on the test drive of the Sportline diesel we tried before we bought the car either. I would like to get a test drive in another of the same again. The dealer didn't have one available last time. Thanks again.

Hi there,

From what I know, this was an issue with the cars produced 2024 / first half 2025 and equipped with the DCC plus shocks. It was then corrected from a certain point, I guess other shocks were installed. If memory serves me well, it was indeed a functional problem, not merely an inconvenient sound.

I guess the dealer does not want to change the shocks under warranty.

If nothing else works, at least get a written paper from them that there is no problem with the car, so if/when it breaks, you can sue them.

Cheers!

If in Australia then ask VW / Skoda Australia why no TPI on the Known issue if it is a known issue. or Skoda CZ. If in the UK then it is Skoda / VW UK the Importer and who covers the Manufacturers warranty. Main Dealers are not just the Manufacturers agent they are the Customers / owners.
