Spare Wheel Question

Featured Replies

My wife is swapping her 2017 Citigo as it's being written off for a 2018 Fabia SE. The new car does not come with a spare wheel but the silly goo

The new car has 16" alloys and the Skoda Saleman (nice guy) said that you would not Get a full size spare wheel anyway so rob the one from the citigo. The one is the citigo is 165/70 R14 is he correct and we can use that?

Thanks

Probably - what is the tyre size (not the spare) on your Citigo?

Hi.

The try size is 185/55/ 15 and the Fabia will be 16's

The dealer says The bolt pattern on both cars is 4x100

Fabia Mk3 is 5 x 100 / 57.1 centre bore /46 offset

Citigo is 4 x 100 / 57.1 centre bore / 35 offset

Dealer has got it wrong.

You should be able to pick up a spare from scrapyard. or use https://www.wheelfitment.eu/ for alternative wheels that fit (search by PCD)

Possible tyre sizes for fabia are 185/60/15 215/45/16 215/40/17

All the spares I find seem to be 15" for a Fabia

If you go for a 15" with 185/60/15 or 195/55/15 it will be very near the same size as 215/45/16 assuming the 16" has these tyres.

Perfect, thanks

Found a wheel 195/55/15 so pretty close using the link your supplied.

Appreciate your help

Sons mk1 runs the same size. He had 185/60/15 but I changed to 195/55/15 last year. Slightly wider and seems perfect for the car plus a lot better than a space saver wheel or can of glue. (My two ton people carrier has a spacesaver. Not the most pleasant drive home on what looked like a moped tyre after a blow out plus limited to 50mph) See if you can pick up the foam insert with a jack etc if the new car doesnt have one.

Thanks Alasdair

I want to get rid of the goo as it just don't work. I am happy what ever the wheel is LOL so I don't get stuck

Still have the glue in my cars as well as the spare just in case I get flat on busy road to get me out of there quick. Your right though in the past I have used it and works to a point but not for very long plus tyre service hates it.

Hope you enjoy new car

Could you not just buy a single 16in alloy wheel? Loads on eBay.

I guess the question there is would a 16" wheel fit in the wheel well as my understanding is skoda have not done a 16" so may not fit.

Don't have the car yet to measure

The wheels and tyres on the car now will fit in the spare tyre well. Well one will. Take one off the car and try.... If you have a spare and a full car and need to change the spare the tyre off the car should go in there flat or not. Loads and loads of threads in this section asking about Spare Wheels / Tyres. worth doing searches sometimes.

@Carlston will give the full lowdown - spare wheel options for 2018 Fabia SE on 16" wheels (silly fashion size).

@glenn_btn do bear in mind if you get a space saver size it's only a get you home/garage size don't drive around on it for normal use. Also all sizes of spare wheels/tyres often aren't checked and kept at correct pressure which is often discovered when their use is actually needed which is usually a very inconvenient time.

Also do not rely on the car to tell the driver that a tyre is under pressure badly or deflating as by the time the warnings come up the tyre could be very deflated already, use your driving experience to tell you if something doesn't seem right and take appropriate action.

I have just come across a fabia 4 complete wheel kit says for FABIA (PJ3) with 185/65/15 tyre. Does that have the same pdc etc. From the link I had it is just slightly bigger rotation wise https://tiresize.com/comparison/

No spare / Space Saver / Saver of Space is identical to the cars tyres unless exactly the same size / profile and wheel size / width. They are there or there abouts. Even a brand new matching wheel / tyre unused when put on is not identical to a 10,000 mile tyre that is on the car. steel wheel and narrower tyre

Personally I'd ring the the Skoda Salesman (nice guy) and ask him to measure the actual diameter of the wheel well in the car you are buying - but then it might depend on how deep in the wheel well he measures, how accurate he is in his measuring - BUT given he told you Citigo wheels were the same perhaps you would be best going to measure the car yourself.

From Mk4 forum - but I have no idea if a Mk4 wheel well is the same or different diameter as in a 2018 Fabia SE (or my wife's 2015 Mk3).

I thought I'd posted this link before but see I didn't, tyres are a very important complex (safety) component on a car, they affect braking, steering, suspension, handling, comfort and noise, too much of a mismatch on the axle and both axles can cause bigger issues.

More information can be found in the 'Tyres & Wheels' forum of this site. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/213-tyres-wheels/

Skoda sell a spare wheel kit for the Fabia MK3 that fits in the spare wheel well. It has OEM part number 6V0093860B which includes everything except for the actual spare wheel. The spare wheel that's normally fitted to these is 185/60R15 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 and can be ordered separately.

This spare wheel kit can be ordered from any VAG parts department by quoting the OEM part number, ie. 6V0093860B

The below "skoda eshop cz" website doesn't ship to the UK, but it's a useful website for finding out the OEM part numbers of spare wheel kits, etc.

If you want to order a 185/60R15 84H 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 spare wheel (tyre fitted to steel rim)...this can be ordered from any VAG parts department by quoting OEM part number 6V0601011M. However, if you want to choose your own make and model of spare tyre a 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 steel rim can also be ordered from any VAG parts department. They should be able to find out the OEM part number for this from their VAG computer system using the car's VIN number.

Spare wheel kit for Fabia MK3 6V0093860B (1,489CZK is about £53.16)

But as seen above, loads of room and even a 215/40 R17 or 205/45 R 17 fits in. AKA Full Size Rims and Tyres as might fit a Fabia, and without the floor sitting higher.

Just looking at that photo only, which might or might not be accurate (stock photos) 205/45 r17 might be a bit tight being nominally 1/2" (15mm) wider but sizes are nominal and will vary by make and model of tyre and might depend on whether you keep the spare tyre at the highest pressure for the car against the lowest.

A 215/45 r16 is nominally slightly not as wide as a 185/60 r15 and given the generous space above the tyre lying in the footwell (of that photo) should fit easily.

It is damn easy. Take a wheel off the car and try in the spare tyre well. Less of a song and a dance and this might and that might not crap needed.

Already been suggested, possibly more than once - but the car ain't with the OP it's with the Dealer, where the salesman (nice guy) told OP wrong about Citigo wheel fitting Fabia.

Personally, with my wife's 2015 Fabia Mk3 we don't bother carrying the goo or the spare wheel!!! But that shocks, frightens and horrifies some, and others seem very offended by me even mentioning it. 😄

Used to be humorous, to me and others, when Porsche drivers had to call the breakdown services because they couldn't fit the road wheel in the space the spare wheel fitted (not the only make like that) just funnier with a Poorshar.

Many a car have front wheels and rear wheels of very different sizes / widths and no spare, even Skoda ev,s. As to trying thd road wheels fitted to the car, in the space for the spare am i the only person that has done it? I think not. The spare wheel well is thd same dimentions mk2,3 and 4.

So what size is this, what width measurement? I don't know and don't have the car available to measure to solve this (it's not my car).

As my wife's car doesn't have a spare wheel I've never bothered to see how well the road wheel and tyre fit in the spare wheel well, I have rotated or swapped road wells to the spare wheel wheel on some of my neighbours cars without issue but they weren't VWŠkodas.
