Superb diesel acceleration fault

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I have a mark 3 Superb 2 litre diesel with 190hp. I have a very sporadic fault which shows up just when you think it might be gone!

Every so often under acceleration in first or second gear its like the car loses all power or somebody hits the brakes for a split second. It can be quite violent or it can be mild.

It also hesitates slightly sometimes when driving at higher speeds (between 50 kph and 120 kph). There is no engine management light and no fault code when this happens.

I do have a fault code P171900 that shows up randomly every week or so but I clear it and stays away for a while. I have other fault codes I will put them below.

I washed the DPF and while doing that we found one the pipes at the pressure sensor was snapped so replaced the sensor. I had another fault code that showed up in a bulletin describing my symptoms that pointed to the oil temp sensor. I have a new sensor and will be putting it in this week.

Any guidance would be much appreciated

Hello, welcome to the forum.

Does the ADAS warning flash up when this event occurs?

DTC 171900 could very well be a result of your momentary losses of power - that can be a flag that your ECU is limiting engine power to prevent damage to it.

The cause of that should be investigated.

I had a similar issue on my Superb 2 litre diesel with 190hp recently. I was initially thinking it could be the dual mass fly wheel, DSG clutch pack or even the DSG related. I was talking to a local indy who suggested it might be the crank position sensor going faulty. Had them change it and car has been good since.

Thanks for the responses!

So there are no lights on the dash when it happens.

The P171900 code comes in under the air con codes. I am going to get the gas done next week.

I did read the crank sensor is a possibility also. Will look to get that changed.

I put a new clutch kit into it when I bought it as the bearing was gone. I also changed the oil temp sensor as it came up on a bulletin with the symptoms i'm having.

For full clarity my friend is a mechanic and is helping me with this also.
