I’m hoping someone can advise.

This evening after cleaning my wife’s kodiaq I thought I would plug in my obd module and have a scan. Not done hers before but done plenty of bits including coding on my MK3 superb.

I selected what I thought was the right profile and scanned for codes no problem. A couple of historic ones for door locks came up so I tried to clear them. The dash lit up like a Christmas tree with every warning light going. And the trouble codes is now full of communication errors. My wife saw this occurrence and I reassured her I know what I’m doing but I don’t think she believed me…

So I’m turning to the forum for some technical advice and hopefully to restore marital bliss!

Cycling the ignition cleared the warning lights but the faults in the scan remain.

Car is a 21 plate facelift 1.5tsi DPCA kodiaq mk1. I selected the profile based on the engine code but now I’m thinking it probably should have been the EVO one despite it not mentioning Kodiaq.

I think it’s the right profile but I think maybe battery voltage was low. The car had been sat for an hour or so with internal lights on and then headlights on when the ignition was turned on to connect to obd.

I read on an Alpha forum of someone having similar issues with Bluetooth obd.

Will take the car for a 10 min drive and try again.

SOLVED

It was battery voltage all along. I’ve seen so many posts on this forum of Christmas tree dashboards and people being told it’s low voltage but for some reason it didn’t register with me at the time.

Took the car for 10 Minute blast up the A14 and then turned everything electronic off and plugged in. Cleared all fault codes without issue. Scanned again and just 2 codes that I know about still showing. Phew.

Kept it plugged in for 5 min drive home and showing 14.3 volts so I’m happy it’s charging ok.

I think that qualifies for a "well done". I have no idea how the diagnostics and pbs port work and sadly it is very likely to remain that way. Your, now resolved, "Christmas tree" dashboard would terrifying me ****less. Fortunately I have a friendly and competent mechanic who does know about these things.

Thanks. I’m kicking myself as I literally did a post on the superb forum to someone saying about watch the battery voltage as it can cause a crazy dashboard lights if it drops down during coding! Then completely forgot my own advice about 2 days later!

I faced similar problem with my own Kodiaq. The battery autonomy is very low compared to my ex Superb Estate Mk3.

Hopefully, I have a battery booster and a battery charger which saved me 2 or 3 Times after Coding sessions…

Now, I know I have to limit my coding sessions to 20-30 mn as a maximum.

Glad its a common thing and not just me!. Makes me nervous about changing rear brakes. I can see why the manual states to fit battery charger. I might park it nose to nose with my Superb while doing it so I can connect the jump leads if need be.

Hi,

If, you switch off your car once EPB is in maintenance mode, it will be ok. Then just switch on, when you want to leave maintenance mode.
