Hello everyone,

I am thinking about retrofitting the Virtual Cockpit and 9.2 display on my 2017 S3 Sportline equipped with Canton sound system. I would like to make it in the most economical way but at the same I don't want to experience combability issues. I hope that some of you who have done it already can share some tips.

I understand that when it comes to the 9.2 display it can be a second hand one. What about the MiB Sat Nav unit - do i need to upgrade to 2.5 or 3 version?

Do I need the newest gateway like MQB High or other?

What would be the right choice of the VC unit - Chinese AliExpress/Alibaba one or second hand one with obvious mileage/immobiliser history? I don't think about installing the aftermarket one but Skoda one, Chinese made or EU one.

I hope that some of you have the information about the part numbers and good advice in general.

All your help would be much appreciated.

9,2" need MIB2 High by Car 2017

@JR RS has a guide for upgrading to 2.5 and the bigger screen. I believe the main unit just needs software and then you add the screen as part of the upgrade process.

There are other threads about VC. I believe with 2.5 and VC you can’t get the maps on the vc as that would need mib3. Also I think you might need a new bcm but others will probably Correct me on that.

With the Virtual Cluster, please pay attention to the anti-theft version.

U must check whether if it is 5C anti-theft or 5A anti-theft.

In ur case, given it's MY17, u will need version 5A.

5C is the latest anti-theft system.

5A is the old anti-theft system.

2014-2019 uses the 5A anti-theft cockpit.

Superbs produced after 2020 can b either 5A anti-theft or 5C anti-theft. Need to check the anti-theft system.

If the anti-theft system and the cockpit do not marry up - it will not work.

5A and 5C versions r different anti-theft systems. They cannot be used mutually exchanged.

Given urs is MY17, u won't need a new BCM. Just a new 9.2" screen, M.O.S.T splitter cable (if u want maps displayed), firmware upgrade to MIB2.5 and the right virtual cluster.

U can't upgrade to MIB3 - it's a different setup altogether.

Thank you very much for your comments. Yes, Autotrader could be an option, but I like my car, and I don't see the point of selling it just now:).

When it comes to getting the right part number for the VC with anti-theft 5A, how to find it out? Just to go for the certain production dates or there is another way?
