Child seat, front seat

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance regarding child seat installation in a Skoda Karoq 2019 (Style).

I’m considering the Joie i-Spin XL (R129 / i-Size) and wanted to ask:

Is it possible to safely install this seat in the front passenger seat?

Important notes:

  • The seat would be installed rear-facing (for a newborn)

  • The front airbag would be deactivated

  • I understand this model typically uses ISOFIX + support leg

From what I’ve seen, there seems to be some limitation regarding i-Size seats in the front seat, but I’m not 100% sure how it applies specifically to this model and car.

Would really appreciate if anyone here:

  • Has tried installing this seat in the front passenger seat

  • Knows if it’s officially supported or not

  • Or has experience with similar Joie models in the Karoq

Thanks in advance!

Whilst some Skoda models (Kodiak,Kamiq & Scala) appear to have Isofix as standard on the front passenger seat, it seems the Karoq may not. However there appears to be an optional kit to allow Isofix mounting to the front seat.

Google 'skoda karoq isofix front seat' and check whether your vehicle already has Isofix mounts.

Stupid question…

Why are you installing in the front, rather than the back seats?

Its been years since I needed a child seat but we drove Volvo 940 estates then and getting a seat to fit properly wasn't easy. We went to halfords and they tried a few before we got one that fitted well. Might be an idea to pop in and ask them if you have one local. You obviously don't have to buy from them but they were very helpful.

My 2024 Karoq has ISOfix on the front passenger seat.) can't remember whether the seat has a top tether point for a chd sest; probably not.

However, installing a child seat in the rest would be much safer than in the front.

My, small for her age, ten year old grandaughter often asks to ride in the front of my car but I insist she sits in the back.
