Oil change service

Featured Replies

I recently received a message from the car telling me that an oil change service was due. This is despite the fact that my vehicle had an oil and filter change 3 months ago.

I have done just over 5000 miles from new.

Is the computer assuming that I do a lot of stop - start driving and hence regular servicing is required.

£300 is a lot to pay every 3 months!

Was it a Demonstrator that got a Oil & filter change 3 months ago, or why was then if only 5,000 miles from new. Was the Service Indicator reset and did you check so that after the Oil Service it showed 24 months, 18,000 to 20,000 miles, or if on Fixed 9,400 miles / 372 days? Did the person maybe reset the 'Service' indicator and not the Oil Service indicator. They can be set for the same time and not 2 different setting.

Definitely, you do not have to change the oil. It is just a matter of a wrong warning from the car, for reasons you need to understand yourself :).

Hi, thanks for your quick responses.

Firstly the car was bought as new in December 2024 and I took it for the first service a year later. At this time, the electronics were also updated. I have done just over 5000 miles from new.

From what you say, I suspect that the service interval indicator was not correctly reset.

Thanks for letting me know - I will get on to the garage.😀

I take it now you will want it set for Fixed Oil & Filter servicing so 12 months and a week / 9,400 miles and not on Variable if it is still set for that.

Yes that is correct, thanks.

Hi all

I also have a premature 'oil service is due'... is there a method of resetting it my self without a dealer visit ?

You need an ODIS / VCDS tool ).

I didn't know that would work.... I thought it was all encrypted, but times have moved on 😄

step 1 select the left hand instrument panel with the right side scroller by clicking it

step 2 select the "total Distance" km/miles in there with the right side scroller by scrolling up or down

(separate post due to size limitations)

step 3 press the left button below the right hand scroller you changed it with in the above steps for 5 seconds and let go. voila the menu to reset. the button is the one with the left arrow and the little boxes on it

I reset my oil service warning and now it is gone.

@QuinFin Does that work if the car is set for Variable / Flexible servicing & you want to put it to Fixed Service Regime warnings?

i didnt try that but dont recall an option to set it to a different schedule. But you can always try. I just wanted to get rid of the warning since i will get mine done with the overall service soon and it just annoyed me

Thanks for your help. I’ll give it a try.

Unable to get this method to work unfortunately. (UK spec). Anybody else had any success?

Yes, method posted by Quyinfin worked 100%, UK spec 2024

@Old_Dave Was your car already changed to Fixed Servicing oil & filter & you reset for 9,400 miles / 372 days, or was it on Variable / Flexible and reset for another 24 months.?

Great, sorted it now. I wasn't releasing the button so was it timing out before the menu appeared. Many thanks @QuinFin .

@Ccc1 What do you now have showing, 12 months or 24 months until the next oil service? Did you get the choice of what you wanted?

@Evolution13 it has reset to 9400/365days. No choice other than reset.

Looks like it was already set for Fixed Service regime then. Or maybe someone that had their car as from the Factory set to Variable used the way demonstrated to go to Fixed servicing.

Yeah has previously appeared and needed resetting as oil change was not allowed by leasing company until 18k. Dealer said they had set it long but obviously not. Happy to be able reset it myself, one less bing bong to worry about. 🤣

Thanks to all those who have advised me previously.

I tried many times and it finally worked just as I came to a halt.

I don’t know if it actually made a difference, but now I can drive with one less interruption!

😁
