Skoda superb 280 2016 paddle shifter steering wheel upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all, looking at swapping my steering wheel on my 280 l&k 2016 for a sportline one that has a flat bottom. I’ve read that the steering wheels are a straight swap for the paddle shifters to work so I am very interested as I spend a lot of time in manual mode shifting up and down 👀.. anyways I’ve found this one from a 2019 sport line however the top of the airbag area looks a bit straight, as in it looks like only a heated steering wheel airbag would fit there, so I don’t know if it will be compatible for me, can anyone find out?

Part number also in pictures

I was looking at this exact wheel on eBay! That’s a more modern heated one.

You need to get the right part number based on age of car and if you have heated or not. Have a search on the forums and there’s a few posts listing part numbers.

Basically you need to stick to the same as you have but the flat bottom version. So if it’s not heated get a not heated one. If it’s heated get a heated one.

Ah ok I did find one that’s non heated but £300, that’s way too much so I’ll keep searching, paddle shifters sound like a bunch of fun on a 280 especially 😂

I haven’t been able To find out if you can use a heated wheel on a car without heated wheel connection but just not use the heated function. Perhaps @Cairus would know this sort of info?

Thanks, do you know if an Octavia vrs steering wheel would work? Has the same buttons too.

@Binx1310 - if u didn't have heated steering wheel before and then get one with - u'll need to change the clockspring as well, plus coding.

@Sko101 - yes u can use one from an Octavia vRS.

That's wat I did about 3-4 yrs ago. I replaced my round wheel with a flat-bottomed wheel from an Octavia vRS, with paddle shifters.

As @Binx1310 mentioned above - u need to make sure it the right version otherwise ur current airbag will not fit the wheel.

I think pre-MY19 should b ok.

Also, given urs is MY16, make sure u look at wheels without the "VIEW" button.

I'll dig up the part number I used and share it soon.

Mine is MY17

Found the discussion here.

Part number of the flat-bottomed steering wheel I got was 565 419 091 E BGW

Thanks. I nearly Bought the wheel @Sko101 had put photos of on here as it seemed a bargain at £130 but it’s got a view button so would have ended up spending a lot more to make it work!

It seems the part number you used is the one I need and they seem to be more expensive!

thanks guys, would a 2014 VRS Octavia steering wheel work for me? It’s flat bottom and all but the buttons are slightly different

(There is a person talking button, instead of the button to turn on or off the car assists)

u can actually swap out the button set alone, however it's a lot more faffing around.

they're not that expensive.

steering clockspring on the other hand is quite expensive if u went from heated to non-heated, or vice-versa.

i was lucky that i got the version i got secondhand, for the price of peanuts, from a mate.

brand new it costs way too much and i'm sure i would not have done this retrofit if i had to pay that price!!

umm....don't know, sorry.
on mine, the voice assist is on the left side, next to the volume scroll button.

the car assist button is on the right side, above the Phone symbol.

I have found a 2016 Octavia vrs flat bottom steering wheel with the same buttons as what’s on my current superb wheel. Can anyone confirm if the buttons will work or will I still have to buy different buttons to make it work on my superb.

Yes Work

How about a karoq steering wheel? It has the view button but I’d change the buttons as it’s slightly cheaper than others

Ok so an update I ordered an Octavia VRS flat bottom steering wheel with the red stitching and paddles, it also has the same buttons as on my superb so no need to faff about with anything, my car is a maroon mk3 280 so I don’t mind the red. Will update when I fit it and test it, paid about 160 all in

So to clarify, if it has the view button I can just swap the buttons from my current wheel, and if its heated it will still plug in to a non-heated clockspring and work, just not with heating. And DSG paddles will also work where I dont have then currently? Also will the older type airbag fit the newer type wheel, albeit with a gap at the top that cant be seen?

If this is correct it opens up the potential to other wheels significantly.

I think that’s not true, I had a look on the forum, the original buttons have a different cable when they come from a non paddle steering wheel so you can’t just swap them into a wheel with paddles, and regarding the heated steering wheel it was mentioned that the connector would be different or something like that so again that wouldn’t work

The steering Wheel Button have To Support Paddels. The Controller are the Button self with lin
