Amundsen MIB2 randomly restarting while driving

Featured Replies

I've noticed increasingly that the infotainment system in my 2018 Karoq will just randomly restart. This is particularly frustrating when using the sat nav, for obvious reasons.

Today I made two 90min journeys and I would say about 60mins into both journeys the restart happened.

Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm on software version 480.

You might be better looking and asking in the Karoq forum. I don't think pab567 is about much at the moment (family issue) but I might be wrong.

As cars now are basically software machines on wheels it could be any one of the various software, firmware or hardware issues, updates, programing errors and omissions, cheap automotive chips, wiring, connectors, other - no I'm not a fan. 😁

What do you mean by forced?

I will sometimes reboot the system by holding the power button down for around 13s to get it to pick up the internet connection (have mentioned this on an old thread). But this is like the system just decides to reboot all by itself mid journey.

Well when this issue occurred on the partners mib2 standard which yours is, it was due to the jpeg on a media file be played. Went through a process of isolating the problem. Trying it with the map SD card out, still did it. In this case the graphics artwork which was embedded in the music file was far in excess of 512x512. It is specified certainty in the Seat manual the size. It was a home brew music file someone had created from an album and embedded this massive file which had been taken from album art files.

Mib2s are like very basic home computers of old. It had created memory overflow / leak so the data of the jpeg went out of bounds and crashed the unit. The solution was to remove all of the embedded jpegs on the SD. There are manipulation programs to do this. You'd have to check what I used on the Seatcupra site since I forgotten. Adjusting the embedded jpegs on music files was popular at one time hence the programs that were written for it.

So yes pull the SD cards out and see whether it reboots with them out. Find out whether it's due to a music file. If so you need to remove any large embedded jpegs. Clear as mud.

Edit

Mp3tag was the program I used to fix it. See
