USB port suddenly stopped working

Featured Replies

Have had my Skoda Superb Estate for 9 years now and my usb port has suddenly stopped working. It will not connect with any usb device including android auto for satnav which I used to use a lot when travelling. Also voltage for charging my mobile phone is very low and I get a warning message about lack of power from USB on my phone.

Have replaced my phone to usb cable - made no difference.

Have installed a new USB drive - made no difference.

Reset my infotainment system by pressing the On/Off button for 20 seconds - made no difference.

Checked the fuze box - fuze number 9 (as per handbook) was missing so replaced it - made no difference. Evidently the wiring and fuze allocation for my car might not be standard maybe??

Any ideas folks?

Many thanks - Steve (Northants)

Lock the car and walk away for 20 mins. I think there's a time delay fuse that resets after a while. Had the same issue before.

Sorry but is this a joke?

No. The control Modules power down after 20 Minutes or so. The walk away is to ensure the key is far enough away from the car for everything to power down.

i remember reading on one of the posts the other day about someone who had a simular problem, unfortunatly i cant find the post ( cant sleep so ive been trolling looking for answers) if i remember correctly the OP was in Austalia and was getting help from someone from Wales ( im usless with names) but he ordered a new usb unit 5Q0 035 726 but he ordered the wrong one, as the number is the unit and the letter at the end A/B/C/D/E etc is the shape of the connector that fits the wiring plug in the car.

@sthatcher - do u have an additional USB port inside the armrest compartment? i.e. one next to the phonebox and another in the armrest compartment?

If u do, u'll have a USB hub module, sitting inside the centre console trim - there is potential it has likely failed, though its rare for them to fail.

its weird that u said the fuse in #9 was missing - that makes no sense.

Thanks. There is only one usb hub in the car.

There's definitely protection built in to the head unit either via thermal fuse or some overload sensor. If you overload it the USB, it will switch off. Time or another unit need to shutdown before it resets.
