Featured Replies

Greetings from Australia, I wanted some thoughts and advice on buying a skoda superb mk2 wagon with the 3.6 engine. He is asking for $7.2K AUD negotiable.

Good

~ Low-ish/average mileage driven - 10,000km per year since it left factory.

~ Strong service history (every 10,000km, and DSG done every 60,000km).

~ Last serviced October 2025.

~ Upgraded entertainment/centre screen and fascia to suit modern Pioneer Z5350BT, retaining native screens/functions (gives aftermarket Rear View camera potential i believe, instead of the OEM retrofit which requires cutting the boot).

~ Drives smooth and shifts fine

~ No weird engine sounds or interior rattles

~ Interior clean and well taken care of

~ No accident history

Bad

~ Surface rust at top of front windscreen.

~ Small dents or scratches here and there, but no structural issues.

~ Potentially a smokers car (my wife said she could smell it).

~ Needs a cut and polish.

~ No first aid kit.

~ Currently on its 3rd owner (6-8 months) so I'll be the 4th.

~ Currently owned by a young Uni student owned so not sure if it gets thrashed/driven hard.

I'm hoping to maintain and keep this car for a while. Can these cars go above 250,000KM mileage? Is buying one at 160,000KM just asking for trouble?

I love this model and would like to keep it as long as possible so will take measures to maintain it well and drive with mechanical sympathy.

Thank you very much for your help!

Welcome to the forum,

The rust along the top of the windshield looks very minor, probably from paint being polished away from roof edge - probably not too difficult to address reasonably.

Not familiar at all with the 3.6 engine, but I'd think it would be good for another 100k Km at least, very common these days for smaller engines to do that sort of mileage - how does the asking price compare with similar vehicles?

A brief search on the net suggests the 3.6 EA390 engine is a particularly good one, with only a couple of known issues - early ignition coils and crank seal oil leaks on high milers.

Said to be good for 400 K km.

How is the suspension and gearshift?
