My daughter as bought a 22 plate kamiq with no spare wheel/tyre

Her tyres are R 17 s and I understand a spare r17 will not fit in her boot.

Can she put a r16 on her car as a spare get you home if she gets a puncture.

That's a 205/55R16 6Jx16 ET35 5/100 57.1 steel wheel...which is the wrong tyre size for the Kamiq. The correct wheel sizes for the Kamiq are 195/60R16 6Jx16 ET35 (winter tyre size), 205/60R16 6Jx16 ET38, or 205/60R16 6Jx16 ET40. Skoda parts department may have poorly chosen the 205/55R16 tyre size because it's cheaper than the correct tyre sizes for the Kamiq, ie. 195/60R16 or 205/60R16.

Skoda don't approve 205/55R16 for the Kamiq, ie. it won't be in the car's CoC (Certificate of Conformity).

The spare tyre doesn't have to be listed in the car's CoC, so although a non-standard tyre size could be used it's has a much smaller outside diameter than the Skoda approved tyre sizes...as shown in the chart below.

It's best to order a spare wheel kit without the actual spare wheel (ie. the foam and jack kit), and purchase a spare wheel separately. This way you can select the tyre and rim that you want, and not accept the undersize tyre that VAG parts departments are selling for the Kamiq.

The spare wheel kit (everything, except for the actual spare wheel) can be ordered from "skoda parts com" for about £55 including UK VAT and delivery to the UK from Czech. "skoda parts com" pay the UK 20% VAT, so there's no extra VAT to pay on delivery. It can also be ordered from any VAG parts department, by quoting the relevant OEM part number (eg. 658093860 or 658093860A).

Although a 205/60R16 should be fitted to either a 6Jx16 ET38 or 6Jx16 ET40 rim, it could also be fitted to a 6Jx16 ET35 rim for use as a spare wheel. However, 205/60R16 6Jx16 ET35 isn't a Skoda approved wheel size (ie. it's not listed in the car's CoC).

@Carlston You are quite wrong. I have a factory supplied temporary spare wheel for my Kamiq. It's even in the accessory brochure. It is fully approved and fully compliant as a get you home spare wheel!

205/55R16 6Jx16 ET35 isn't in the car's CoC (Certificate of Conformity)...hence it isn't approved by Skoda.

205/55R16 6Jx16 ET35 could be used as a spare because spare wheels don't have to be in the CoC...but this is an economy measure, so it would be better to use a wheel specification that's in the car's CoC.

In strict European countries, the wheels on the car (not including the spare wheel that's used as a temporary get you home measure) need to be in the car's CoC. So if it's 16" wheels on the Kamiq, the only specifications are 195/60R16 6Jx16 ET35 (winter tyre size, but can also be used with summer and all-season tyres), 205/60R16 6Jx16 ET38 and 205/60R16 ET40.

BTW I have the actual CoC for my vehicle! As far as I know these seem to be produced on a per vehicle basis. Mine certainly cross references other ID number on the vehicle.

For the OP, its about page 35. Totally legal as a get you home measure.

Look at 'the wheel shop' web site. They supply spares together with a jack and wheel wrench but not the foam surround although you do get a bag to put everything in. I have found them very helpful and far cheaper than Skoda.

Note that the tyre and wheel supplied with the Skoda kit is a full size tyre and wheel (not a get you home slim wheel and tyre with only a few mm tread). This kit is marked with the speed restriction as it does not exactly match the wheels on the car. It will fit in the wheel well. I got my dealer to supply them with the car at a reduced price cf the retail price to the dealer. Note that if you buy them on line from the Skoda parts depot the price is much cheaper even taking account of the p & p.

The jack and tools supplied by the Wheel Shop come in a soft bag which may not fit into the wheel and so will have to be stored elsewhere in the boot. I got a suitable tyre and wheel and jack etc from them for my wife's car, and whilst perfectly adequate and reasonably priced, the fact that the jack etc would not fit inside the wheel is slightly annoying.

The insert for jack / tools from a MK2,3 or 4 Fabia 15" spare wheel will fit with space around it. PS. Always worth trying a wheel off the car in the Spare tyre well to see if it does fit. After all you have to put it someplace untilll you get it replaced or repaired and the car / boot might be full. 17" or even 18" tyres on a Fabia can go in the Spare Tyre well.
