Skoda Fabia 1.2TSI Monte Carlo 09/2011 - Electric Windows Fault

Featured Replies

My Daughters boyfriend has recently bought a Skoda Fabia 1.2TSI Monte Carlo (61 Plate 09/2011) for his first Car. The car is really clean, drives well and has a full service history. On getting the car home we've noticed both the Driver and Passenger Electric Windows are not functioning. I've read quite a few really good Threads in this forum that may help me find the fault, however I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for getting hold of a wiring diagram for the Window Controls and maybe help with Part Numbers for Door Controls and Window Controller Module. The car is not on the road yet, due to the Insurance being really expensive if the cover started immediately. (Saved £800 if cover started in 3 weeks) As I was with him when he bought the car, I feel a little responsible and was hoping to help him resolve the issue, even if it costs me. He's only just past his test a few weeks ago and was really disappointed when he found the fault with the windows...........

Not sure on yours but on the MK1 the drivers side controller/motor also controls passenger side. My sons was the same and Breezy Pete on here repaired it for me. Get in touch with him if he hasnt already seen post. Excellent service. From memory there a couple of components that fail and stop it working. Check fuses etc first and also wiring at drivers door pillar/rubber gaitor in case theres broken wiring which is fairly common.

My money would be on broken wires in driver's door bellows.

As for Insurance I know what you mean. We used Marmalade insurance for my son while he learned to drive. Bought a 1.2htp mk1 for him to learn as all our other cars were 1.9tdi or larger. I put the car on my policy and marmalade covered my son while he learnt. My NCD was protected and was cheapest way we could find. Immediately he passed his test he wasnt covered as its for learners only. Think they do a Blackbox scheme if he has the car in his name.

He's bought a policy with a Blackbox. Cheapest he could get was £1845 if he insured it from the 23rd November. It was £2660 if he insured it from last Sunday. I went with him and bought a temporary policy to get the car home, hence why I fee a little responsible and want to help him repair the fault. We used "Covered on Demand" for the learner cover, I think it's similar to marmalade, was really good. Getting back to the fault I've checked fuses 51 & 52 and a scheme on another thread pointed to checking fuse 11. This was my starting point. I was then going to check the Connectors on the Door Gator then start belling out the door loom, hence why I was looking for some help in locating the correct wiring diagram for the year \ model. Beyond this I've bought the drivers side double window switch from eBay, which I'm waiting to arrive. If they're not too expensive I'd also try and get a door Window Control Module, so I had the most likely components for when I have a go at finding the fault.

The door window module may be repairable as mentioned. If you are getting one make sure the part number is identical. Quite a few on ebay that are for LHD cars so wont work. The wiring from door to door pillar as Pete said is the first and likely culprit if fuses are ok. I found by removing stay that stops door opening too far you get better access to rubber bellows. The loom plugs into a socket/maybe two on door pillar under rubber gator. You should be able to test continuity from there back into door once door panel is off. Watch the door handle release cable. Its clipped into a plastic bit that has a tendency to snap if not careful. On my sons it was temperamental at first. Passenger side would sometimes work then control/motor failed completely. I was driving and had to drive home with window open in -8C with wet slush hitting the side of my head.

Pete repaired it and its been fine ever since.

There were 3 quite different types of motor module fitted to mk2 Fabia during its production run, I think yours will be the last version but can check with VIN.

I seem to remember there's at least two incompatible versions of the switchpack also.

I'll message you to request the VIN and then I can look up for you.

Still reckon a 5 minute look at the wiring in the bellows is the very first, and likely the only thing you'll need to do.

Thanks for the help. I've sent Pete the VIN Number and see what comes back. I'll follow the recommendations and start with the Door Connections. Thanks Again, I think I'll be using this forum quite a lot............

Replied with part numbers etc. It is the later type, where driver's and passenger side can operate relatively independently compared with the earlier versions where driver's side failure generally caused both sides to not work.

There's a tab at the top of the door bellows, on the bit nearest to the A-pillar. To release the bellows from the A-pillar you push downwards fairly firmly on that tab then pull the top outward. If it's never been opened before these can be stubborn, try not to force it, they can break.

There's then an orange rotating locking clip that needs to rotate further than you first think to release the (28 way) door loom connector from its mating half on the pillar. (Especially important to make sure it's fully open when refitting connector).

Does the switchpack light up when vehicle lights are turned on? The backlighting relies on the same earth as the switch functions do.
