The increase in torque (350Nm vs 280Nm of the petrol) is fairly significant and this is at 1800rpm - low down the range.

But surely this is just torque at the flywheel .... torque at the wheels may well favour the petrol?

Went in there today to try and arrange myself a test drive.

After that i went to a VW dealer and when i said sao why should i pay extra fora golf over an octavia, got told "the badge sir, it will hold it';s value better". So they are suggesting I 2k more fora smaller car with less kit (GT TDI vs VRS) and pay higher servicing charges to get £1000 more for the car 3 years down the line :S

Anyway also popped into the for dealer nad I have to say I am hugely impressed with the new focus. It is one hell of a car Handles so well and the 2.0 TDCI is monster of an engine

I asked about this at our Skoda branch and they say they have four on order and are expecting them to be quite popular.

Some people have posted asking why the fuss over the diesel VRS?

Perhaps consider that many fleet drivers are only allowed diesel cars. The interest in the diesel VRS is understandable considering the price for 170bhp with plenty of torque (more important in real world driving than bhp IMO) in a car that has good space and handles well.

I'm waiting to see how contract hire rates look (my firm has cars on a 4 year/120,00 mile contract), hoping that I might be able to add a number of extras to the std VRS spec. Subject to a test drive of course (see thread on this subject - I've had some interesting experiences in this area).

Anyone know what the performance figures are for the 170pd?
